Default MagnaFlow Catback system - FEEDBACK needed!

Looking at adding a Magnaflow Catback system to our 08- 6 speed unlimited JK. I was wondering if anybody that has installed this system could comment:

How do you like the system?
Do you have any dread DRONE issues at highway speeds????
Any performance or MPG gains???

Any comments would be great.

Thanks,

Mike

Hey Mike,

I have the Magnaflow cat back on mine for almost two years. I love it. No too loud, but loud enough to know you have an aftermarket exhaust. Doesn't sound like some Ricer either. To me it sounds kind of like a baja vehicle. No drone at all at any speed. I also have an intake which helps out too.

Myself and Rubicon_fan have very similar mods to our Jks. Mine has the intake and exhaust, his does not. Both are 07's and 6spd. Both have lift and 35's. Mine has 66,000kms, his has approx 38,000kms. We switched vehicle's one night to compare power etc. Both of us were surprised how much more throttle response and power I had over his. We did not drag eachother, but both of us agreed that I would easily be able to pull away from him if we had raced. I even have the heavy a$$ Warn front bumper and winch to boot, his is stock.

I was really used to the power of my JK as it sat, but after driving his without any mods to the motor/exhaust, it made me realize that it was actually pretty good, and liveable.

I will try and find a sound clip for ya....

Here are a couple clips of mine under power...not the best quality as the camera was not on the right setting, but at least you can see the difference.......I appologize for my brother yelling in the first clip, plus turn it up loud, towards the end of the clip you can hear the throaty sound.....I was climbing a cat track, had a bit of a pucker factor in it...haha....I would say go to youtube for pure exhaust clips...

Cheers

Hi Steve

Thanks for the information & the sound clips appreciate it! Your JK is killer love the looks and sound!!

I have been thinking about an aftermarket cat-back for awhile but I had a Borla dual Exhaust on my Dodge Magnum R/T AWD and it DRONED bad at 90-110km/hr and drove the wife nuts! She would curse me out and ask why did we pay so much for this car and it sounds like CRAP on the highway!

I am glad the Magnaflow has no drone and does not sound like a fart can ricer. This will be on top of my list for mods this year along with CAI, Superchips programmer.

I may even try to add on my Mopar CAI from my 5.7L Hemi Magnum as I parted out my aftermarket parts before I sold it. See if I can rig something up.

Did your fuel mileage change with the Cat-Back & CAI??? Hope to met you sometime this summer on a JK run in BC!

Cheers,

Mike

I guarantee there is no drone, and it sounds right, my girlfriend thinks it is fine, not bothersome at all. If I recall correctly, I paid approximately $500.00 for the exhaust and installation almost 2 years ago at Killer Customs in Pitt Meadows. I bought a AFE intake...it has been fine, and at that time the only one available...

I drive my vehicle's pretty hard at times, probably faster that I should, and I am satisfied with the power.....but I always want more power You have probably 100 different opinions about intake/exhaust and whether they are worth the money here. IMO I have always changed the those two mods on every vehicle I get, and have always been satified. I like having my Jk a little different, and to me after Rubicon_fan and I did the switcharoo test, I am happy I have the power mods....I am still waiting for a better programmer/chip before I add that too.....I don't think my fuel mileage increased that much to brag about it, and I don't really care about that stuff, as Jeeps aren't meant to be economy vehicle's......I just drive it, wheel it, and floor it when ever I want. I am sure the fuel mileage increased.... maybe 1-2 miles per gallon

My brother has an 08 unlimited Rubi too....he went with a Brute Force intake, and dual Borla exhaust....his sounds good too.....IMO I like the Magnaflow better than the Borla, as the Magnaflow is a single exhaust tip that seems to seated up higher and more out of the way, yet I wheel pretty hard at times, and mine is dented up. My brothers dual tips are noticeable lower..., and to me dual tips don't go well on a Jeep w a V6......if I had a Hemi that would be different...

Look forward to you coming out here, hopefully this summer......we will take you to a few good spots for sure.....maybe try and plan for the Whipsaw trip?

good luck

Steve

Here's my interior sound clip with a custom catback made by my buddy who owns an exhaust shop. I used an 18" x 4" Magnaflow.

Yeah, by a long shot. Course, it ain't mandrel bent. It's bent the "old fashioned" way with a block and die pipe bender. I don't think you could feel the difference in mandrel bent VS. non mandrel bent. You might could see it on a dyno.....maybe.

If you have a friend who is a custom exhaust guy around, that would be the cheapest by far, but for rest of us, we don't. I am sure down in the US it would be cheaper, I just didn't bother looking into it. Remember our Canadian dollar is worth .79 cents US.....so I am sure you guys South of us, can get a better deal.

Redneck, your jeep sounds good man From your sound clip, I think yours is louder than my set up, or I am just used to mine now.
