Making a winch mount. Need specs. . .
OK all, need some help here.
I'm leaving on the 22nd for Moab. I've got a Smittybilt SRC bumper on the way, but it's not going to make it in time, so I need to fab up a quick winch mount. I'm not interested in spending a lot of money on a factory bumper mount like Warns.
Harbor Freight doesn't sell the smaller universal winch mount that everybody used, and they're backordered on the larger one.
So, since I've only got until Saturday night to come up with something I figure I'll just go to my local metal place and buy some plate and having a buddy weld me something up. I've got access to a band saw, plasma cutter, and mig welder.
Questions. . .
Without having to do a bunch of research. . . Is 1/4" thick enough? Overkill?
And does anyone have any measurements of the HF plate, or the JK's frame width.
Also, I was thinking that rather than using a flat plate and having to trim the whole front of the bumper, that maybe I could just raise the plate a and then I'd just have to trim a couple "U" openings to go around the mounting holes.
Basically, something like this one Body Armor makes for their own bumper. http://www.quadratec.com/products/12113_403_07.htm
I.E.

Thoughts?
Edit: I meant 3/8's above where I said 1/4"
