Default Mileage drop with bumper

While looking up some reviews on the Smittybilt XRC front bumper a few said they lost 2 mpg. Is this common or a fluke? It does change the air flow, but I didn't think that much.

Two MPG shouldn't matter. I'm not sure why anyone would worry about such a little amount. Just remember, the jeeps are built per a spec. Then, we go and change all kinds of things. And wile doing so, we add a shitload of weight. Something has to give. In our case that would be fuel milage.

I don't much care what the mileage is. It won't affect what I do to mine. In the last month, I bought the Rubi, spent $4800 on "Stuff" with bumpers and winch next on the list when I decide which ones. Fuel cost is the least of my concerns. I just thought that was quite a mpg change for a bumper. If that's the case, it would be my challenge (if I was a manufacturer) to build one that made the most of air flow and still do what we want it to.

My winch and bumper did not change my mileage. Treks bumper 65 lbs. Warn 9.5ti 89 lbs. Check your weights before you buy. A smittybilt winch weighs somewhere around 125 lbs.

You would need a lot more than a bumper to lose 2mpgs. If it's not rotating or sprung only a nominal amount of fuel mileage will be lost with weight unless it severely changes the aerodynamics of what is already a barn on wheels.

2 MPG seems high..lost about 1/2 MPG with addition of front and rear bumper and winch. Probably added close to 300-350lbs of weight, so the little 3.8L works a little harder to move.

I personally feel the key to the MPG loss is the removal of the stock plastic air dam.

Sounds like a load of BS, I added a Smittybilt SRC and didn't notice any change from that.

My mpg is all over the place....all depends on wind and rpm's. For me to pinpoint any mpg change on a mod is almost impossible.

Hi JKFreak- how do you like, or what do you think of your RR front bumper? Is it holding up well? i was thinking of getting on but i've read a few threads where the powder coat started peeling off. Are you experiencing this? So, for me it's between RR or the new Smitty XRC MOD. (which is on back order)Any feedbackwould be helpful .thanx

Sorry to cut in like this but... I have the Rugged Ridge front and rear bumpers. They are holding up great. No issues with the powder coat or anything. I like em a lot. IMO they are one of the best bang for buck bumpers out there.
