Modification you regret. What do you wish you didn't do today?
Hey man, I'm running 33's and 4.56 gears and I have no issues. It's at around 2500 rpm at 65, and between 17.5 to 18 mpg depending on hills and such. Drop it down to 55-60 and that slight difference will get you 20 mpg. Granted I have f/r truetrac, but the gearing is insane in 4L and it is such a perfect combo with a 6 speed. Really nice in the rocks and clay.
A very very minor regret...I wish I would have researched more when buying seat covers. I'm currently running black neoprene covers by Smittybilt and bought them just to have something on there. They're doing their job, but there are much better options.
Everything else has been excellent, leaving me regretting only the mods I have NOT yet done.
Gearing-- I'm in a quandary. I have 3.73's and 33" tires with the 3.6 6-speed manual and it's "just" enough gearing to be liveable on both the road and moderate trails. I'd feel better if I had 4.10's or maybe even 4.56's, but I'm hesitant to do anything. Upgrading to 4.10's seems expensive for the marginal benefit, and upgrading to 4.56's would take away the Jeep's everyday practicality on the road.
Lighting - I (almost) survived the winter with the stock headlamps and lighting. I almost backed over a short fence in complete darkness (note: add backup lamp to tire carrier post, STAT), and I almost had a run-in with elk while traveling a very dark forest service road. I need to figure out what I want to do for lighting very soon.
I had also planned to buy a set of swaybar quicker discos and install them before my last wheeling trip. I got busy and it completely escaped my mind. For the minimal cost, I wanted to see what kind of difference they made. I'll do this before my next trip.

First off, the mount is made very well and is solid as mentioned. But I'm guessing you guys have not actually mounted a hi lift to it with the cb antenna mounted. The antenna is too close and it maxes out the swr meter. That is my only gripe. I have a high lift and cb for trail riding and now I need a new mounting solution for the cb antenna.
I wish I would have read the fine print when I bought my Super Charger for my Jeep Jk - Now I cant drive it in the cold Mid Michigan temperatures or it will burn up...which I have already done once because I didn't read the fine print. That is my regret.
What I'd do differently today is... get the cheapest JK possible and invest in Curry D60 high pinion front and rear with E-Lockers, 5.13 gears, 1350 yokes and complete disk brake upgrades to 5.5 centers for about $10k. Only problem is, I would twist the transfer case off the frame before breaking an axle.
awesome thread! thought the front page crowd would like it too...

i did not lift mine , very satisfied with were i am today . I havent done anything on impulse / We all get that itch when you see built jeeps on the forum. Its easy to envy some of these jks but you have to be realistic and live within your means & really decide on what you need over what yould like if your on a budget to some degree . Mine dosent have a ton of money into it , but it works fine for me and i think adding a little at a time you make better judgments on purchases . The jeep cost is the big cost. the add ons can be done in time and some times you realize , Glad i didnt buy that when i was going to
i can appreciate seeing some jeeps that are just built to the hilt , but most would be over kill for my needs
( The rubicon model has most all the features ill prob ever need ) i dont play on big rocks though.
well i did buy a 50.00 storage box that i cracked the lid on when i kneeled on it , lol guess i should have bought somthing a tad stronger to keep my shit in ( steel box ) im not done adding things , just slowly though im thinking these maybe ?? But no rush . http://www.4wd.com/Jeep-Interior-Par...n=S%2FB5661001
