Mopar Tire Carrier Help
I got the carrier to stop squeaking, now I want the tire to stop moving.
Anybody shim the rear carrier where the part that holds the tire slide in to the receiver?
Such a wierd design.
I guess anybody familiar with towing could chime in...
The mopar carrier is adjustable. The plate where you bolt the wheel to the carrier is on a 2" arm and slides into a 2" receiver. Just like a hitch and receiver. Wondering if there is any technique that can eliminate the movement. I would weld it, but I believe that one of the parts is aluminum. Not certain though.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking but...I've got the Mopar tire carrier
and the only thing I did was to get the Daystar spacers (from Amazon.com)
for like $14. My Toyo 35" doesn't move/rattle/bounce at all.
I'm not sure if that answers your question.

If I stand facing the tire, grab it and try to rotate it clockwise or counter-clockwise, the tire moves a little back and forth each way.
I have the Daystar spacers too, but I think I trimmed them too much. I cut an entire section off. Did you trim only part of the first section? Maybe I should order another set and try again?

A little background info. I'm running Procomp 7289's with 4.75" of back spacing. The Toyo 35's are (stated) to be 12.5" wide (I think). I only used 1 of the Daystars, on the latch/driver's side, and didn't trim anything at all. To use the other on the hinge side would have required quite a bit of trimming. On the spring loaded pin, I removed it and drilled a hole further up (towards the 90* bend) so the pin can go deeper into the tapered ramp and bumper below. Just to the right of the ramp is a welded on piece of steel (on the bumper) and a piece of material (looks like Velcro loops) on the carrier. Although I believe these 2 things were supposed to be in contact...they weren't. To compensate I got a small (@1/4" OD in my case) rubber tube and secured it to the carrier where this Velcro stuff is with a black zip tie thru the tube. It seems like a pretty secure set-up. Yeah the tire moves a little bit but not much and it definetly doesn't bounce.
I have the Daystar spacers on mine, too. Mine aren't trimmed at all. My swing is very tight against the tailgate and spacers. I have to use a rubber mallet to knock the pin into the bumper. No rattle or movement.

Mine was squeaking like crazy. I figured out that it was the two screw things on the tire carrier. I unscrewed those, which made the pin in the bumper tight. I have to push it in, but don't need a mallet.
I think that I am going to order a new set of Daystar spacers and trim them as little as possible. Sounds like it should fix my issue.
