It's mounted on the upper roll bar. Not the roof.

If you look up HI-Lift mount options on the forum here is my input of that thread:

I secured my hi-lift and shovel with 4 heavy duty velco straps from Home Depot. Doesn't budge at all... only thing different this year is I added some foam squares where the plate and screw (from Hi-lift) makes contact with the fabric. Last year it cut through the fabric at those spots (no big deal). Live and learn.

I went with the JeepSwag mount very happy with it so far. Drove from socal to Denver and went out on a trail to day. Not a rattle. The velco straps are not a bad idea per say but with my two kids in the back seat I want that thing bolted in...
