Question MT/R or BFG AT ???????

I am looking at getting a set of tires for my jeep. I don't know which ones to choose!

265/75/16 BFG AT for $497 (4 tires)
265/70/16 MT/R for $478 (4 tires)

I'd like pros and cons to each please.

what do you do with your jeep?

daily driver?
how often do you wheel and what type of terrain?

those are big factors in tire decisions

AT will have a way better life than the MT/R but the MT/R will give you a more aggressive look and will perform better in offroad situations. That said They will most likely be louder also on pavement. Id go with the MT/R cause i love the look

Personally the BFG AT would be at the bottom of my list regardless of size or intended use. But that's just me. They are fuel guzzlers on the road, and suck eggs in snow and mud offroad.

I would recommend 265/75s in some other AT with a more ribbed tread design such as the Firestone Destination AT, Hankook ATM, Toyo AT, etc..

Everyone has their own opinions. I ran the AT KO and they got me where I needed to go. My dad is on his 2nd set of 265/70R17 (same size as a 265/75R16). They are beefier than the stock narrow tires and the same height. They do NOT guzzle gas and are smooth as silk.
Here is a picture:

However, I run duratracs and they are GREAT for an all around DD with some trail rides/snow on the side. The MTR is a good tire, but I do not think it would be great for a DD. I ran AT KO before, and the duratracs are just a better overall tire in my opinion.

Well do you plan on using these as your offroad tires when you do mod? or do you plan to keep these as your DD and then pick up a used pair as an offroad set? If youre just going to use them as a DD get the AT just because of how long they last. Ive heard like 80,000 miles out of them... However they arent going to perform offroad so if you want to use them offroad then definitely get the MT/R (what I would get no matter what) they still have a really good life.

I'm on my second set of BFG MTs. Original set got 65k miles. You have to rotate every 3k miles if you want max wear and noise redux. Are a little louder than my old ATs from a TJ, but I've been getting great mpg with these, much better than my TJ with ATs. I use mine as a DD with trips to the mud and sand, where these tires are king. Our mud is really sticky here so MTs are a must unless you like having to winch out. They are ok on the few snow days we've had, but looking forward to going to CO to really test the snow traction. They'll not going to be snow tires, but I know that already. Did I say you must rotate MTs at least every 3k?
