However they arent going to perform offroad so if you want to use them offroad then definitely get the MT/R (what I would get no matter what) they still have a really good life.
I have to agree, go with the MTR they not only will perform better offroad, and in honest consideration none of us really leave our jeeps in stock wheel range for 80k! Plus from what it sounds you are looking at them for the agressive aesthetics, they are not aweful on the road and you will be able to utilize them moreso than the bfg's

Its a personal call but comparing an AT to an MT is apples to oranges

Ok thank you all for the advice. I'm going to order the AT and maybe this winter when work picks up I'll grab a set of MT to play with as a second set.

Take a look at the GY Duratacs; they are a great compromise between an AT and an MT.

I ran Hanook AT's on the Jeep for a while. I liked them, but deep down I wanted an MT. Performance wise, they were good in the snow and that's about it. Any time off-roading I just wasn't happy with their overall performance.

I've ran both the original GY MTR and now the GY MTR/K. I loved running both those tires, they have an aggressive tread pattern, perform great off road. On the streets I never had an issue and we get tons of rain in Portland. They really aren't that noisy anyways; I only notice them with my windows rolled down.

My Jeep is my DD. If it were me, I would get the MTR's; as it would annoy me to have to change out tires all the time between daily driving and going out to the trails.

I bought Cooper Discoverer AT and went to an park and went everwhere the guys with MT's went. The AT's don't have any road noise (relative) than the set of Generals I originally had on it. And some how I didn't lose any milage when I went from stock 30" to 315/75R16 (12.5" wide rims so they measure 34"). Haven't had them in the snow yet but I'm looking forward to trying them out.
Like the other people said if your going off roading a lot and in wet terrain MT's might be better, if not I think the AT's will be better.
Good Luck

I'm in the same boat over tires, what about Nittos? I had terra grapplers on my f150 and they had low noise and the aggressive look but never offroaded them, what's the opinion on these? I live in WA and plan for wet, sloppy conditions, and hope to start hitting trails once in awhile when I get at least decent tires.

I am a fan of BFGs because the last so long.

My brotherinlaw had nittos and barely got 30k miles while my BFG at ko's were at 50k and had another 10k to go.

I am shopping as we spreak for most likely a 305/65R17 BFG mt or at.

FYI, discount tire direct was MORE than the regular discount tire price.
