You're reviving a thread from 14 months ago, talking about a lot of chatter...

Start in the Show Off threads, or search on whatever tire it is you're considering.

255/85/16 and 255/80/17 KM2's are the same 33.3" size and 10.0 widths. i think the AEV J8 runs 255/80/17 KM2 as standard equipment. does anyone use a KM2 (any size) in snowy/icy areas like new england (vermont, new hampshire, upstate new york, etc...)? i wanted a set of duratracs for the winter in one of these sizes but the closest made by them is 285/75/16 (wider than i wanted in an ice/snow onroad tire).

thank for any info on km2's in snowy/icy onroad conditions (siped or not)?

I had 35" KM2's and in the snow of Colorado I wasn't all that impresses with them.......until I had them siped. Prior to siping the Cooper STT's on my Ford Super Duty 4x4 performed much better; after siping the KM2's were better.

I recently upgraded to 37"s KM2's. Rather than have Discount Tire sipe them as I did before I bought a Van Alstine Tire siper and hand siped thme. It's heated and allowed me to cut 4 sipes at a time with 1/4" spacing and each 37" took about 45 minutes. The tool isn't cheap at 200.00 but it should last me the rest of my life. Blades are cheap and go pretty far. The tool can run up to 13 blades with 1/16" spacing or you can use 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8 7/16 or 1/2" spacing - or even just one blade. It took me two sets of four blades.

I think a siped KM2 is the best general purpose off road tire available today.

Thank you chuck45 for the info. i have to track down some 17" rubi rims now and see how well the siped 255/80/17 km2;s will get me through the coming snow season.

Just be aware that they are load range E. This is what made me decide against them.
