Default Need Better Brakes...with 35's

Now that I have 35's, the brakes are lacking... has anyone upgraded the brakes and does anyone have any recommendations? I would like to be able to stop as fast or faster than stock...

Default Brakes

I'm just guessing here but your comp/ABS control still thinks you have the stock sized tires and applies the appropriate amount of braking for the smaller tires. Before upgrading the brakes I would try one of the programmers they sell first.

That would be a good question for Darnell of Hypertech.

I sent him a PM about this thread.

Default Brakes

Mine isnt a daily driver, so I just put up with longer stops... but if it was, I would have this installed:

http://www.stu-offroad.com/suspension/vanco/hydroboost-1.htm

as for the ABS, it most likely uses a wheel speed sensor, comparing it to the other wheels, and applying as much pressure as you tell it too.. so max brakes with 35s is the same as 31s, however;

the rotating mass of the tires is a lot more with 35s than stock... so your stopping distance is well, longer...

Heck with the anchor, just push the wife out with a rope and tell her to hang on!! But on the serious note cant see why braking would be a problem with the over sized rotors that are on it. They are much bigger the any previous jeep versions. That is why a 15" wheel doesnt fit to well.

If you think the JK is lacking stopping power with 35's. Find someone with a TJ/ YJ with 35's and stock brakes.......you will be scared.

The JK brakes are great in comparision to the TJ and YJ.

Go to the EBC site and look for a more aggressive pad. Not sure if they make any brass impregnated yet but if/when they do it will definately increase stopping power. Rotors will be sacrificial but that's the trade for more aggressive braking.
