Need bigger tires, please help
HI, new here
Just came home with a new 2dr 2012 sport. The tires are ridiculously small looking and I need to change them asap. This will be a street car, probably will never go off road, so the change is for looks. After some research, I have decided to get the GY Duratrac tires and new wheels. I would like to stick with stock suspension for a while, I am looking at the 33"/12.5/15 or the 285/70/16. Will one fit better than the other?
My main goal it to get a larger, aggressive looking tire, without rubbing that looks great on the stock suspension.
Also, what do I ned to look for in a wheel?

Are you keeping the stock fender flares?
You have a lot more options and less issues if you keep the stock suspension, but switch to flat fender flares.
Personally I'd go with the 285/70/16 because I think the 15" rim is too small looks wise.

I think you mean 285/75-16 which is essentially a 33x11.50-16 tire. You can fit 33's at stock height pretty easily. They will rub at full steering lock unless you use wheel spacers or aftermarket wheels with less backspacing.
Yes, thanks, I mean 285/75/16. I plan on using aftermarket wheels. Is there a specific size wheel I need to look for other than 4.5 backspacing? Do I need spacers? Sorry, I am completely new to the worlds of aftermarket wheels/tires, etc. I am keeping stock flare for now.
You can save a lot of money and time, and stay within Jeep's OEM configuration by just buying some mounted wheel/tire takeoffs from a Rubicon, or a Sport S. 255/75R17s are in the classified section quite often as well as on Ebay. They are the proverbial 32" tires some of us list. You can see my Rubi takeoffs in my avatar.

Do a search on black rims, or soft 8's. If you stay at 33" or less, you should be able to find direct replacement rims with proper offset and backspacing. I see these too for sale in the classified, as folks climb the tire size ladder ever bigger, 32 - 33, 33-35, 35-37, etc.
There is a wheels/tires section in the faq's at the top of this modified area. It should be your first stop.
A 15" rim/tire combo will be less expensive, but there are issues with rubbing the calipers. You will want a 4.00 BS or less to minimize the risk.
The other thing to be aware of is that smaller rim sizes may have issues with upgraded brake kits, (TF big brake kit?), and possibly with some of the aftermarket steering components (rod ends on the currie setup?).
