I painted my steel rims, with duplicolor universal black. It was the same paint code as my black jku. It made them look great, and it only cost about 30$ with two cans and clearcoat.

Yeah, pretty easy. I took an old bumper i bought, cut it all of the way through right behind the mounting brackets on either side. I took the endcaps and trimmed them with a cutoff wheel until I could match the contour of my opening. Once I did that I used a saudering iron and some leftover strips of bumper to weld. Sanded and used a bit of fiberglass filler, sanded some more and sprayed with bedliner.

Did you paint them with the tires mounted?

Yes. I wet sanded with a very high grit after a good cleaning. I dried them and taped them off as close to the rim as possible with flexiable painters tape. Used some masking tape and newspaper I finished off the rest of the tire. Once done with two coats of paint, another wet sand and two coats of clear, I used a tube of the same paint code touch up paint to get anything close to the tire I may have missed. Next time for sheer ease on my new jk I will do it before I replace the tires.
