Default Need some advice on install

Here is my dilemma. Just purchased 3 inch teraflex kit, with replacement of all 8 control arms, front and rear JKS. Spent a lot of time chosing this lift out. I have been searching for jack stands and a good jack to install myself. I was dead set on installing myself. My fiance told me she really does not want me under 2 tons of steel and would pay for the lift to be installed. So as to not piss her off I called around. There is a off road shop that quoted me at 600-700 for the entire install. Has only done one JK before though, mostly buggies and other vehicles. Guy is reputable in town, does a lot of custom fab work and buggy competitions and is well respected. Upon questioning appeared to really know his stuff. So during my calling around it got me thinking, could I do this. I have the tools, and the space, and deffinitely the time. I was able to do Woods evap and muffler relo with no problem, can I do this. Have been torn for weeks on what to do, help!!

Wheel chocks, jackstands, good floor jack , tools. Hey , get a friend or two to come over and help out for beer and pizza. I'm a safety nut. Make sure your on a level hard surface with the stands and follow the write ups on here. What you'll learn about your jeep is worth way more than the install price.

definantly do it yourself. Jeeps are built not bought. The experiance and the knowledge gained will be worth it. Good luck.

There are two kinds of guys in the world. Those who like to do stuff themselves and those who can't be bothered and pay someone else to do it. There is nothing wrong with either. But if you are in the first category, then don't let your significant other talk you out of it. You'll be much happier doing it yourself. If you're in the second category, take your girlfriend up on her offer and get it installed.

I haven't done a lift on my JK yet (the parts are in the mail! ). But I've done a lift on a liberty, huge amount of work on a WRX (turbo, injectors, intercooler, fuel pump, fuel rails, etc), a head gasket on a neon, pushrods on an LS1, a handful of exhaust systems and a bunch of other projects I never thought I'd be able to do.

As long as you have the space, the tools, the time and the patience it'll get done. The guys I see get into trouble are the ones that start the project on Sunday and need the vehicle to drive to work on Monday morning. Just make arrangements for your vehicle to be down for a couple of days (it probably won't be, but this way you won't get rushed) and take it one step at a time until it's done.

There is nothing like doing it yourself. Not only is it done to your liking but if something goes wrong in the field you will have a very good idea on how to fix it. Also, have your fiance buy you the right jack and jackstands with the money she would have given to someone else to install it. After your done your lift is installed, and you still have the tools. I have done more side jobs where all I ask is they buy the tool I need, and I get to keep it. The tools and experience will last a lifetime.

find a buddy with a level driveway and tell you fiance that you are going to the shop and it is 700 bucks to do the install

then buy her something with the money

I don't have a picture of mine handy (I returned it to stock since lifting an IFS vehicle is a huge pain in the butt and really compromises the on-road ride).
But here is a typical example. Basically you can only run a 245/75/16.

Call a couple friends over and get over sized jack stands. That way you are comfortable under the rig and have the help and added safty of extra hands and brains. It is really rewarding to do it yourself and know it was done right. I am disabled and I was able to install this kit with a friend. Just take your time. If you need any info or anything feel free to PM me, I will even give you my phone number if you want to call with any questions. Good luck, and dont forget the pics!!!

Great lift choice BTW! (I maybe biased)
