Default Need Tire Help

I was all set to buy Toyo 38x13.50R18 and put in my order. The guy at Discount calls me back the next day and says can't get them, that tire is on a nation back order, none available and factory has no anticipated manufacture date. So basically I am screwed.

There are not a lot of choices available for a 18" rim size. The only other tire in a 38" I could find is the KM2, but damn, BFG is really proud of their tires. The Toyo's were pricing out at around $325 a tire installed out the door, the BFG's price out around $508 a tire installed out the door. So its basically an extra $1000 to go with the BFG's.

Anyone know of some other options in a 38x18? Think it is possible to run 40's with a 5.13 gear package? Does not look like there are many 40" option either with an 18" rim size.

What to do?

sorry, i cant help you besides suggest maybe a 37 instead of a 38. im usually not one for talking someone into going smaller, but its an option, if money is the issue. another note, the Km2s are a sweet tire and i have heard reports of people getting 60k out them with regular rotations.

Thanks Waz, I had thought about going down to 37's. I am also thinking about going to a 17" rim which would allow me to use the MT/R's, however I have not priced them up as of yet.

For me its not really a money thing, its just my driving style, I eat tires like candy on all my vehicles. So spending an extra $1K on tires that I know I will destroy in 20K miles is hard for me to justify.

Never heard of Super Swampers, will check them out as well.

I believe Nitto has the mudgrappler available in a 38" for 18"wheel.

choose tire lineup, then choose the mudgrappler, then choose sizes and specs.

Thanks for the heads up on the PitBull's I had never heard of them. Called them up, they hooked me up with size & part number.

The guy and Discount also found me a Yokohama, anyone have any feed back on these Geolanders?

Nitto's unfortunately are the only tire I will never use again. While most tires only last me 20K miles, I only got 15K out of Nitto's. Nitto should just give those tires away cuz they are not worth paying for. They look bad ass though, ill give them that.

What did you have them on? I bet it was a heavy vehicle. The MG's are soft compound rubber, very sticky, but just won't last on a heavy vehicle. It's like putting a W rated tire on a sports car, they grip like hell, but in 10K-15K, they're gone. I've actually seen F-250's only get 10K the Nitto's. You just have to know what you are getting. I had the 38" Toyo's on a CJ that I had and really liked them, but now, I won't buy anything else but Nitto.

I had Nitto's(33's) on my 2008 Chevy 2500 Duramax

I spoke with a tire rep today, he told me a couple things that I thought were interesting. 1. That Toyo is the manufacture of Nitto tires? Anyone else heard this? 2. That Obama(sorry ass mofo) put a 20% import tax on Japanese made tires imported into the US. That is why Toyo & Nitto tires are on indefinite back order. Anyone else heard this?

I am strongly thinking about going to 17" rims and going with 38" or 40" MT/R's w/Kevlar? Any opinions on this tire?

The Nitto's are not hard enough rubber for a heavy 2500 diesel. Sorry you didn't know that(many people don't), but it's not the tires fault, not being an ass, just stating fact. Anyway, I had about 13K on the set I had on my first JK before selling it and they probably had 85% tread life left. Never heard that on the Nitto/Toyo and don't think it's true because our Toyo suppliers don't carry Nitto and our Nitto suppliers don't carry Toyo. The tax is true from what I was told by one of our tire reps.
