The negatives of regearing?
Ok.
So we have mixed opinions regarding mpg and gear ratio.
Up or down.
Hmmm.
I did 75-80 from Henderson to Houston today, and got 13.8mpg.
Stock gears still, with 36s on 20s.
Haven't struggled offroad much, but wonder what I'm missing.
Not sure I'll ever figure out regearing. Everyone says something different.

when you regear wouldnt it mess with you lifetime powertrain warranty? i have an 09 rubi and i want to lift it up and but 35's on it, but i think i'm just going to but 33's on it with spacers cause id like it to be covered under warranty for as long as possible, you know?
That said, each dealer is different.
Gee, Then let me say this, yes depends on your driving habits, where you live, freeway or city.
MY EXPERIENCE WAS WHEN I REGEARED I LOST MILLAGE AND S DID A LOT OF PEOPLE I KNOW> SO THE GEARING ALONG WITH UPGRADES CAUSED A MPG LOSS>NOT EVEN CLOSE TO MY STOCK MPG> SO YOU WERE LUCKY GETTING CLOSE TO YOUR MPG> BUT NOT ME OR PEOPLE I KNOW>
is that better.
SO I GUESS IT"S NOT COMPLETELY INACCURATE<

The higher gear numerically will not necessary decrease your mileage. In my case it didn't seem to. I say didn't seem to, because even if I remove all other variables I still cannot say how much affect the height difference or increased accessory weight has on my mileage. However, I can say that the difference between stock 32" tires with 4.10 gears is comparable to 35" tires with 5.13 gears.
In my case, 4.88s might have given me better mileage than 5.13s, but I'm guessing that statement would be invalid if I were running 37" or greater tires.
Sorry, I'm not trying to poke at you. I just don't see anything accurate with your original post.
I tend to agree with JPop's statement. I can't say I get better mileage, but no worse by keeping my RPM close to the 2000 range when driving 45-50 MPH (which I do often). I have auto, 3.73, 32" stock tires. I keep the OD off even up to 55 MPH and in relatively flat territory I do not see more fuel consumption. As for hilly terain, I can't say but it wouldn't matter then cause OD off would be manditory in my opinion. To me, the stock JK does not have good driveability until 60 MPH and above in OD.
I have 5.13s on my auto to spin my 35s and it gives the jeep the extra go and low gearing a jeep should have IMO. If I was you and going to regear for 33s I would likely go 4.88. I would definantly go no less than 4.56. Do you plan to stay on 33s forever? if you are going to 35s I would maybe wait and go 5.13s then. If you went 4.88 now though, that would give you awesome low end power and better in town MPG, then if you went to 35s you would have close to stock rubicon gearing.
Well guys, I will report my results when I regear! Sadly though, I don't know when I'm going to, money has to catch up!
I have alot of added weight, but the only thing that changed just now was the lift/tires, all the weight from my bumpers/winch/snorkel/skidplates/gear was already there.
So, when I regear to 4.88, I'll see the change for a modded 2-Dr and report the results so everyone can hear.

One more pic as I love my Jeep...
