That's why they make more than one flavor of ice cream, etc.

The hoop doesn't look right to me, and I do not see at as an extension of the flat fenders lines, or see it complimenting the tires, etc.....

If you do, well, then it works for you. Its all good...there's no wrong answer as to aesthetics luckily.

I might have run a higher horizontal tube parallel across the grill face, and tied in a stepped down hoop set back to the corners, both to brace the hoop/deck, protect the front clip against corner intrusion/brush/deer, and to allow a compromise in the lines integration.

By the time a roller fairlead is mounted up front, that front end will protrude like a Carthaginian warship ramming prow.

Maybe go synthetic line and a Al hawse fairlead to cut some front end weight/length too.

The old Dodge military trucks had a similar bumper, and went with what looked almost like a chain link fence where the current hoop is, another way to go.

Then we agree
" I would put this as a personal preference item."
. The way it was worded seemed to be a definative answer
"it neeeds to be "
. Glad to see it's not.

Well, there WAS a context in that I was discussing my impression/what it needed to look good to me aesthetically.

It doesn't NEED anything...I just think it would be better that way.

Like I said - that's why there's more than one flavor of ice cream......otherwise, every thing would look/work the same.

I thank everyone for their opinions and tips. I look at this only in the positive. I have never designed a bumper from scratch and the shop teacher only tried to give me what I asked so we all learned from the experience. My next project with the class will be rock sliders. I had so much fun working with the class on this I can't tell you guys just how blessed I am to have this kind of a job to go to everyday.

Yes, there was some kinking in the hoop. All he had to bend the pipe was some kind of hydraulic jack looking bender and it was not very good on this thick walled pipe. My shop teacher did not like the result but I told him it was okay with me. I can always cut it off and try another hoop design. That's the great thing about having them around to help me out.

my first inclination is to say thank you for being an involved educator. Granted, you get something out of this too, but using a class for practical education is not really something we are too good at in general. Form over function some would say. (not that I can expound my ideas too much at 48th in ed). anyway, good on you for being involved and giving those kids something to brag about. (now, who stuck their j roach in the housing somewhere as a joke)

are those rims the Procomp 8179's? I like them alot and please let me know on the tires too, I have a flame red and yours looks sweet.

This is a project those students will talk about for the rest of their lives. Nicely done and cheeseburgers all around to the kids. My opinion of its looks is as irrelevant as everyone else's. You'll get some double takes from the crowd and it looks like it'd win a tussle with a school bus. I do question your need for a front skid however. If you didn't get the electric disco option (is that an '08?) you could save yourself some weight. They're not real useful for Jeeps without that.

I have a bender that sounds like the same thing. Something I have heard of, but have not tried with it, is actualy filling the tube with water and freezing it. this helps keep it from crushing. I don't know if it would work in this situation. The bender may not have enough power to bend the tube and ice. certinaly worth some experimentation. Here in michigan it's not to hard to do this, being in Texas you may need to find a chest freezer.
