New Gears - do I need to program the new ratio?
Ok, bear with me ... I have tried searching with no luck.
I finally saved enough to regear. with my driving style and my planned mods, I opted for 4.88's instead of 5.13's... and in the first 50 miles, I LOVE the change. the Jeep feels 100000% better. (feels lighter, quicker, etc...)
I WAS running a 3.73 stock ratio with a 91 octane tune and a tire correction from a flashpaq.
I have since put the 87 octane tune back on (so I can run regular unleaded) but I wanted to get folks input on whether I wanted or needed to update the "gear ratio" in the advanced settings. Are there Pros? Cons? do I NEED to do it for some reason? Is it to help the transmission?
my first inclination is to update it to 4.88 to match the new gears ...
Since a large number of you guys have regeared, what is the consensus?
Thanks everyone!

Changing the ratio shouldn't do anything, the gauges will already be adjusted from setting the tire size. (I think the only time changing the ratio will have an effect is if you are still running stock tires?)
Thanks for the input everyone.
I went ahead and programmed the change with my flashpaq just in case the computer uses the info for something unknown. better safe than sorry with this Jeep.
As for the install
I had 4.88 yukon gears installed front and rear - have an auto so I had 3.73, no carrier change needed - at R&P 4wd in Oregon City, Oregon. I was planning on going to Northridge but just couldnt get the time off work to drive up and get it done. Oregon City is about 30 min away vs 4 hrs and my favorite Dim Sum place is between here and there so it was easy to justify the trip.
I was quoted 1100.00 for the gears/install. I ended up needing to replace all the bearings in the rearend and a few other misc things so I ended up paying something different... but R&P were good to work with and so far, no problems with the gears (about 75 miles on them now). It did take them extra long to get the gears done, but when they found all the metal filings in the rearend, ended up having a couple guys out with the flu and broke the pinion tool for the D30 it took some time. They were cool about it taking extra time and worked with me on price to compensate.
I guess the real question is whether I would recommend the shop to a friend and the answer is yes, I would. Good price, nice guys, didnt try and work me over on price or talk me into anything I didnt want... I even pressed them about my ball joints and front-end bearings (effectively giving them an open door to more work) and they said they inspected them both and I just didnt need them replaced.
