New gears in transfer case?
I was pretty close to getting my gears done for free at the local trade school but at the last minute they decided they couldn't do it. It's a bummer because all i would be charged was for parts. The reason they backed out was because of the amount of time it would take to do in class. They told me that being a 4x4 they would also have to swap gears in the transfer case? I've never heard that before. Are you required to do the transfer case? Is it optional?
No they mean transfer case. I asked about that. I asked if it was because of the two axels but he told me the instructor was concerned about the transfer case. It was a nice try anyway.

Sorry but NO way in hell I would let students, even with a teacher present, do gears on my jeep. Remember you get what you pay for, and even then yhou dont always get what you pay for.
your gears could end up like mine, and I paid to have them done

i just figured it would be a good try. If it worked out i would get a good deal. If it didn't i would just be out the price of the gears. Since i want the gears done anyway i was willing to let them try. And its a buddy of mine in the class who suggested i look into it.
I'm going to be contrary here. Any surprise? On projects such as this, Vo Tech schools are usually a good choice. Instructors typically only let their best students participate in this type thing. So, that means you're getting the ones that REALLY WANT to do what they are doing. I know when I was in Vo Tech, that's how it was. 'Course, that was a long time ago, too. THe instructor we had was a retired Benz line mechanic from the '40s. He didn't play around. If you didn't have what it took, he kicked you ass out of his class. He wasn't there to be a babysitter. I guess it all depends on the shop class.
