Default New tires for road trip... or wait?

After about 40k miles (many of which were on rocks), my Procomp mudders have about 1/2 a centimeter to a centimeter of tread left and definitely do not handle the way they used to. I have a 3000 mile road trip coming up in August and I'm torn as to whether or not I should stick with the Procomps and then replace my tires after the trip (as to not immediately put 3k miles on the new tires), or if it's a bad idea to take such a long trip with so little tread left on the Procomps.

What would you do?

Get new ones. I wouldn't hesitate. I don't know how 1 centimeter compares, but the LAW says 3/32 is as thin as you need to run them. Not to mention the tread being low invites hydroplaning. I'd hate to see you go slidin down the road even if you are a liberal.....cause I do consider you a friend.

Spend the coin...get some new rubber.....Don't risk losing control of your Rig if you hydro plane or slide in some muck and cause some major damage to your rig or worse yourself!!!

Just do a smoke show with your worn out tires!!!!!

Definitely recommend some new skins. Like it's been said, why risk hydroplaning as well as not having any tread "in case" you happen to find yourself off road.

Is it only a road trip with no offroad? If thats the case then I would buy some Sahara or X wheels and tires used and then when I come back get new ones. You could prob get them pretty cheap or borrow someone who is not using theirs.

Yeah, I hear ya... but I think that, with my lift, they will look funny and might shift the COG to the top too much.

I am going to start looking into this more... but I agree with you guys, I probably shouldn't be taking this trip with the tires I have now. Thanks for all the feedback!

you also have to keep in mind. the less tread you have the more prone you are to punctures. a puncture at highway speeds is not cool.

Well converting to standard units means that there is between 1/4" to 1/2" inch of tread left - more than twice Redneck's 3/32" limit.
Run the trip with 'em, IMHO.
