yeah, i wanna know that too. i guess im going to have to get a soft top pretty soon. all i have is a hard top and ive come to not like having the top on at all. the problem is, the chance of rain at increases exponentially the further you get from home.

Just spoke with Bestop and the 2nd generation are being shipped out. The main difference is the tension strap that runs from the drivers side to the passengers side. You still need to purchase the tailgate bar. I spoke with Quadratec and they are backordered, so all new shipments when they come in SHOULD be 2nd generation tops. If you get a 1st generation top, please call Bestop and they will replace with a 2nd generation. Hope this helps....

I got an e-mail from Bestop and they told me they must sell their backstock of the first gen before they start shipping 2nd gen. They said 3-6 months.

Is there a huge difference?

Can it be retrofitted if I need to get one soon?

I don't think it can be retrofitted. I got the old one for my birthday and after having it on for a week I am happy with it.

I ordered one from them a last week or the week before and mine is second generation. It has the rear bow, tension straps, and the strap that goes in the front of the cab. Here are my pics......
