Default "New" Upper Intermediate Shaft?

Hi guys,

I just got off the phone with the stealership for a price quote on a upper intermediate shaft for an '08. He said there is a new one now that is the shaft for $295 and $39 for the bearing.

Now is this BS or is there actually a "new" shaft? I have taken my existing shaft out before to lube it up (mind out of the gutter lol) and have not needed to do any bearing work as it is just a bolt on each end. Were does this bearing need to go?

The reason I am replacing mine is the steering is feeling worse and worse and yesterday I could wiggle the steering wheel back and forth about 2 inches from center and kept hearing tick tick tick. Putting my hand on the upper elbow of the shaft I can feel a little play in it. I assume there is suppose to be 0 play?

I dunno but the lower intermediate shaft is the one usually changed (60 bucks) in the engine bay.. The upper would be the one running though the firewall to the steering wheel.

Oh really?

I thought I read somewhere that there was one even lower, which made this the upper.

The one I am trying to refer to has the boot over the spline that everyone fills with grease in hopes the clunking goes away. It is easily accessible on the passenger side of the engine bay.

Thats the one, You can't get any lower, it attaches to the steering box. I've put 4 new ones in mine.

Ah ok, well that's good to know

Where abouts have you seen them go for $60? Local dealer has it for $120 and anything online I found seems to be around $80-100. And 4 is rather high. You would think that after all this time, at least one manufacture would make an aftermarket replacement.

Thats a new shaft. I think it was a little over $320 out the door for mine. I had the same problem with mine (08') but mine was under warranty. Mine replaced was the one that goes through the fire wall with the bushing.
