Default Newbie needs help

I just traded in my 03 rubicon for a 08 Rubicon. I'm thinking about putting on a BB 2.5 lift my question is can I put larger tires on my stock 17 x7.5 rims. I would like To keep my rims. Being that they are 17s i realize there aren't alot of options in size. How wide of a tire can you put on my 7.5 " rim. And will they rub. I want to put at least 33's maybe bigger if they fit. thanks

I have 12.5s on my 7.5" rims although some shops may not do the mounting on this. You actually do have a number of options with a 17" rim. You could fit a 35" tire with the 2.5" BB, but you may get minimum contact(especially with the rock rails at the rear tires-they can be trimmed though) I added a 1" body lift to the 2.5 BB and I think it is a great economic set up for 35s with no trimming required. You should use 1.5" spacers as well. You can find spacers on the forum for sale frequently.

Thanks for the help. So you have 35/12.5/17 tires on your stock rims. What are the spacers you mentioned. thanks. My 76 CJ7 was alot easier to build I put on a 4 inch lowered the transfer case and put on 33s. I'm still getting used to this new jeep theres so many more options and variables to consider when lifting it.

Totally agree. You're going the route that I once did. I used 1.25" spacers which equal 5" of backspacing which is adequate. I now have the same 5" backspacing with my new 18"s and 35/12.50's and no prob's. The spacers will be needed for the the rear wheel to clear the connector's and the front tire width of the 12.50's.

Mine are actually 35/12.5/18 and with the 18 rim your tire selection does go down. You'll learn everything you need here! Besides, you're starting with a Rubicon, so add some 35s and what else do you need?!
