Newbie Questions
Hi guys...I am fairly new around here. I signed up back in June...just recently started posting though. Been doing lots of reading between then and now...there is tons of great info on this site. Now I do have a few questions I haven't really found answers for...
1. My JK came stock with the 16" steel rims. I recently upgraded to a set of stock 17 inchers. Do I have to get my speedo re-calibrated since I upgraded to these rims/tires? The only reason I ask is bc it seems like I am flying past people on the highway since I got these and my speedo is only reading 65 mph
. Would the bigger tires/rims really throw my speedo off that much?
2. Now to the fun stuff...Since I got my 17's...whats the widest tire I could fit on there? I think I am going to be picking up a Rock Krawler 1.75" kit within the next couple weeks. I was gonna run 33's but I wasnt sure about the width. 285/75/17? Would I actually be able to fit a 33x12.50 on there? I figured that might be pushing it some. Anyone else out there running this lift kit?
Thanks in advance!
Joe

Yes changing tire and rim size will make a significant difference in your speed, however just changing rim size and not tire size will have no effect.
As far as the lift goes Rock Krawler is a great choice I myself am running the 3.5 mid arm flex kit, and I love mine! In order for you to run wider tires however its not just the hight you will have to contend with it's the back spacing, so get your self some spider trax 1.5" spacers and you can run what ever you like! Hope that helps!

Not sure what your budget is but I'm running these summitracing.com/parts/CRR-3978850/
They take care of the backspacing issue so that your tires won't rub and they're wide enough to run 12.5" wide tires. At $76 they're fairly inexpensive so they may work out for you.

Have you found the FAQ's yet? There is some good info in there about backspacing. But, if you are keeping the stock rims, you may want to add wheel spacers for the new 'wider' tires.
As far as the lift goes ... it's just spacers and a set of links. Nothing to it. 1.75" front, .75" rear. Gives some height and gets rid of the rake. No caster correction, no axle centering, no bumpstops, just a little lift and swaybar correction...

Welcome

Personally, I think the best way to get ideas\advice is to attend a Suds and Grub or Meet and Greet in your local area and chat with other JKF members in person

I think seeing\riding in various JK's will help you make better decision than just looking at some pictures or being given random advice.
