Nitrous?
if you want your motor last you would wish you had it. everybody goes over board now and then and i would never shoot a factory motor. and hypers are a hell of a lot better than cast, and actually hypers ain t that bad.
point is nitrous isn t easy to setup right, nor is it as dependable as a supercharger or turbo. i don t care what anyone says. you want street useable horse go with a turbo or supercharger. who the hell is gonna run on the street at WOT and use nos. no wonder people are getting killed.
second off the jk is a 4x4, not a rocket

Why is this turning into a knowledge battle? He is asking about nitrous and if anyone can help him accomplish this. Alot of people on this board try different things from expensive aftermarket parts to modified stock parts to save money. Nitrous is the cheapest way to gain horsepower and if that is what he want's why do you care, he isn't hurting your JK. A turbo/supercharger costs thousands of dollars and if you don't have it set up correctly, it is worthless. There are plenty of stock vehicles running nitrous, just because its on a JK it's a dumb idea? Most of us have lift kits with big mud tires and drive them on the street more than we do off-road, maybe we should be getting laughed at. The point is we all customize our Jeeps how we want, just because he doesn't want rock sliders or a snorkle doesn't make it a bad idea. As for an answer, check into the Zex kit it is a very popular choice among the stock engine competitors at the track I go to. Good luck with whatever you do.
yes you are correct hypers are cast, but they have extra polymers and additives plus the are a better material to begin with and are way better than cast.
yeah i know alot of guys who are putting 100+ shot to old short blocks that smoke and burn oil, and a few of them have blown them up too. what ever....
hey do what ever you want! i m just saying it ain t a good idea and if you blow it up, that is on you. don t get mad when i say i told ya so.

i have been dealing with nitrous for some time now and have a few things to offer. first of all you do not need a forged rotating assembly to spray if you keep it at a safe level and use safety items (WOT switch, window switch, wideband, good gas, colder non platinum plugs, enough fuel, etc.). i have been spraying my stock bottom end Z06 with 100 to 150 shot for a few years now and the car runs execellent on and off the bottle, and before anyone says "yea its a vette", these cars come with hyperutectic pistons which are known to be very brittle. i also sprayed the hell out of my stock bottom end WS6 for years without any problems with the same hyperutectic pistons. now would i spary my rubi, no, but if i did i would not go above a 50 shot wet or dry. if you do decide sray it, do it on a dyno and monitor your a/f and make sure you are not leaning out and read your plugs after doing a pull. also, do not spray your rig with a hypertec due to the fact they advance your timing a little too much for spray.
btw, nitrous systems do not have blow off valve. the only thing you do when you purge is clear out the air in the line from the bottle to the solonoid in order to have an imidiate hit upon activation.

Yes, but we're still talking a performance oriented motor vs. a minivan special.
So has anybody put N20 in a minivan???? (I'd love to see it... hehehehehe... n20 bottle right next to the baby seat...
)I think NOS is a bad idea here. I'd spend money on gears before setting up a Nitrous system in a jeep.
Reasons:
1. do you really want to deal with refueling a NOS bottle every so often
2. you're losing space in an already "Cramped" vehicle
3. blowing out an engine off-road?
4. not a performance vehicle. I don't think we should be racing with JK's. While I do agree, some more passing power on the highway would be nice, I think adding NOS to it is just asking for trouble
Wow i didnt think i would get so many ignorant answers.
And who said something about a blow off valve on a nitrous kit? Are you kidding me? Nitrous kits have a purge valve and turbo kits have a BOV, i think you need to start watching some more powerblock and actually pay attention instead of drooling over Courtney Hanson.
I thank the few that had good responses with helpful info. I also have experience with nitrous and turbo/SCed cars. This isnt my first time around the block. Iv had other jeeps and have also raced cars. It can be done safely and i dont plan on anything more than a 50 shot. Im very familiar with dyno tuning and live down the street from a perf. shop with a dyno. Im familiar with all the safty featured that are available for a N2o kit.
Yea, its illegal to have the bottle open on the street here also, thats why they make remote bottle openers. BUT, i need the nitrous for sand dunes, mud bogs etc., same reasons everyone does HEMI swaps, so i wont be using it on the street much.
Everyone is so quick to do a hemi swap or throw a SC on their jeep. Any mention of nitrous and everyone runs, why? Scared of it? Dont understand it?
If it blows up, great, now i can do my 306 5.0 swap. All together i will still come out cheaper than someone with a HEMI swap. I think some of us worship our jeeps too much to take a chance and hurt it. Have fun with it, thats what its made for.
So back to my unanswered questions. Has anyone done it? Any specs on the motor?

its pretty quik. it puts down 450 rwhp 415 rwtq on motor and 584 rwhp 612 rwtq on a 100 shot. i am about to thow an another stage on and pill it to 75 and see what it does. btw, this is on a stock bottom end with a compresion ratio of 11.4:1

Answers:
1. I live down the street from a shop that sells it and its not expensive. I wont be using it enough to have to refill often.
2. I took out the back seat and built a storage box with ball bearing rollers on the drawer and still have extra space. I use my jeep to wheel, not tow kids around.
3. I never wheel alone so i will be fine, plus it makes for good wheelin stories.
4. Who said anything about racing?

Does that thing actually take flight?
