Default Oil Changing Help Needed

Ok so I do my own oil changes, no problems so far except with my Rock Hard tranny skid(I have 6 spd) when I loosen up the drain plug it shoots out and hits the skid hard and makes a huge mess

I was wondering if anyone out there has the rock hard skids and can provide me with a tip or trick to change oil without getting it everywhere.

Thanks!

Maybe try holding a piece of cardboard in fornt of the skid so the oil hits it and drains into the bucket. Should only have to do that for about 5-10 seconds.

Ive been thinking about slicing up a 2 liter bottle so I could slide it up and deflect the oil better, but its only a one rag clean up as is.. so Im not sure how soon I'll try the soda bottle

You can get one of those oil change valves and put it in place of your drain plug. You can regulate the oil drain flow so it's not so strong. They work well.

Yeah im going to have to do something, the first time I changed oil with the skid installed I got a face full of oil, it came out alot quicker / with more force than I thought it would lol

the last couple of times ive changed oil it has not got me in the face but it gets everyone on my garage floor, even though I try to slowing loosen the drain plug in hopes that it will ease out of it , it doesnt work that way for me.

Simple, as stated, piece of cardboard about hand size wedged in for a few seconds does the trick.

I bought one of these with the nipple. $25, hook a hose to the nipple and drain the oil where you want.

I also bought the oil change valve and installed it after my first oil change so I haven't yet used it. I got the one with the nipple so I could add a hose and then direct it where I want it. I had one of these on the last couple of pickups I've owned and they work great. Never had a problem.

The first time was a huge mess, oil everywhere. So I took a plastic prestone antifreeze container, cut the bottle, leaving the cap handle and back (alittle of the side are left to). When I remove the plug the oil hits the back runs down throught where the cap was and I use the handle to hold it.
