Hey, his comment was completely benign. In other words, he meant no harm in it.....

And to think I thought this thread was different than the 1000 other oil consumption threads haha 😃

I did. Helped some. As you can imagine, it was completely clogged with oil from blow by. A catch can is on my to do list so I can see how much oil is being lost. Switching to thicker oil has helped as well

yes...and no!

I also tried moving to 5w30 with no change in oil consumption. I'm not sure if I'm willing to try 10w30 in the dead of winter @ -20* so I'll just wait for summer to roll back around

Default 3.8L Oil Burn "MENU" of Corrective Action

I've been follow the oil burning issue for some time, and I have to agree, and would say there is a "MENU" you need to pick from to solve your individual cases.

1/ Replace your PCV
2/ Run a thicker weight oil sutible for your temp region
3/ New rings, pistions
4/ New valve seals
5/ New short block

Some cases maybe solved with one or two items of the menu, some may need a combination. It's up to the owner to try and monitor very closely you consumption rate after each pick of the menu.

At 65,000 KM my JK was using 0.45L of oil for every 750KM traveled.

-we tried item #1 no luck
-dealer did #3 and #4

After break in, I had zero (0) oil use running Mopar Dino 5W20 for a travel distance of 30,000KM.

Just noted last OCI I used 0.4L of oil for 5,000KM traveled, so, I did #1 again.....will put some KMs on see what happens.

My gut tells me my next Oil change will see me switch to 5W30 Dino and see if that makes the "0.5 L of oil per 5,000 KM ----or 1/2 qt per 3,000Mil" use go away.

My motor has since he day I drove it of the lot been very smooth, quite, just purs nicely.

The solve for this is patience, attention to detail, and logical throubleshooting.

Best of luck everyone

For those who choose to run the thicker oil. What do you do when it starts passing by too? My concern with the thicker oil is that it may be like driveing a wedge?

Always the first thing to do. Often the cause or a contributor.
