I run a full synthetic oil should i also add a quart of lucas oil what is the benefit of this?

 

Run what's specified in your manual and you'll be fine. Seriously.

 

What does everyone think about running 5w40? Amsoil has this oil and advertises it for oil
burning vehicles. Ie. our JK's

 

I'd just run what is factory suggested. 5w-20

 

Recently went to royal purple 5w20. When I was running Dino I used tufoil as an additive. I don't see the need yet to run an additive with RP synthetic.

 

If it uses oil try some 5w30 or 10w30. The 5w20 they recommend is VERY thin

 

Ya I hear that, I'm currently running 5w30 amsoil and I'm still burning a quart every 5000km. I'm thinking of running the thicker 5w40 amsoil,but I wanted to see what everyone else thought about it first.

 

I think that it is a shame that we even have to run thick oil just to bandwidth an oil consuming motor...

 

I am running 10w30 but still going through a quart in a half every 4000Miles. I do not see any difference in the burn rate from 5w20 to 10w30. The NOACK test for the oil i am using is about the same if it is 5w20 or 10w30 (10). That did not cure the oil consumption issue. I know the thicker weight oils are better for the warmer climates and they have higher flash points but it did not show in the consumption of oil. I am going to try Amsoil this next round that has a NOACK rating of 5. i will let you know if I see less oil consumption. I would love someone who has successfully tackled this oil use issue weigh in .

 

There is no single reason for the oil burning. Some have been found to have been assembled incorrectly, some had out-of-round cylinders, others have been fixed by simply replacing a bad PCV valve.

I'd start with the PCV valve. Next have the compression checked. There are posts on which years and which plants had the incorrectly assembled engines.

Some folks have reported better luck with "thicker" oil, others not so much.
