Default OME Suspension

I have an older OME 2" lift. Because of the front bumper, Warn Powerplant 9.5 and skid plate, the front of the JKUR sits one inch lower. I purchased Teraflex 1" coil spacers to install. When I removed the lower bolt on the OME shock absorber with the suspension at normal load stance, I was shocked (pardon the pun) to find that the shock was at full extension! How could this be? From underside surface of tower to center line of lower post measures 23.5 inches. This means that even with sway bar disconnected I have no droop capability??? Am I missing something?

I find most shocks that come in a kit are pretty undersized, normally cuz the lift nets more than the stated figure. Kinda shocking to hear that those would have been fully extended though, specially since you not having lost an inch of lift due to weight. That seems impossible. You sure the shock isn't just dead and not extending any more on it's own? You can't extend it anymore if you yank on it?

Yeah, the shocks that shipped with my OME coils were pretty short too, never actually measured them though. And getting 3.25" from the 2" HD coils didn't help with downtravel any. But at least you have uptravel. Until the coils mash, anyway.

If you're happy with the shocks, you can always add a set of spacers I guess.

I did try to extend the shock when I took the 23.5" measurement.

More research shows that the current OME 60066 are 25 inches fully extended. Not sure where they measure. I would have to think that they use the same points that I did. The 60066L shocks extend over 27 inches and you only lose less than an inch of compression! This will be the direction I go. I agree, the springs must have netted a larger lift and taken up all of the extension. Take a look at the attached photo. Upon closer inspection, it looks like there may already exist a 1" spacer , yes? This means that I need to substitute a taller spacer or find a taller/stouter spring.

I typed spacer, but meant shock 'extender', to add to the shock length. Was just saying that if you are happy with the ride from the current shocks, you could add extenders to gain more travel rather than buying new shocks.

That said, I am now running those OME 60066L/60067L long travel shocks, they seem to give a better ride for me and are definitely longer. (they work well with my current MC 3.5" coils)

This is the figure you used for the measurement? So around 5 inches of lift?

Yes, these were my measurements. Seems the older OME Nitro 2" front kit shocks only extended to 23.5". Do you agree, looking at my photo that I have a 3/4" to 1" coil spacer under an OE spring bushing?

It almost looks like you have 2 small spacers stacked to me. I say that because of the way the spacer kinda tapers in and looks like there is another one on top doing the same thing. Usually you're only going to have a thin factory isolator that sits between the top of the spring and the top of the upper perch.

If that is the case, and you already have 2" of spacers in place, you might just be better off looking at different springs if you are trying to net additional lift. Just my opinion. I can see using a single 2.5" spacer, but nothing more than that in regards to spacers in general. Someone listed these which have a 2.5" spacer in there if you think that the extra bit might help -

Yes, I agree. Previous owner's work. In the long run I will source a taller spring. For now, I will reach out on the TF 2.5" spacer and take out the existing. Any thoughts on finding a spring that will produce the correct ride height? How does one go about this. There are obviously a lot of variables to every Jeep setup.

y, most springs are going to net more than they say, often times 1"+ more. Unfortunately it's not an exact science and you can never know for sure till they're installed. I'd probably look for a good 2.5" coil and expect to see 3-3.5" of actual lift from them. The only way to be for sure what lift height would be is to use spacer pucks since they are using the existing springs and the puck itself is not compressing at all.
