Oh puleeease. Extremely fragile lmfao
Oh and dude tell your bud not to toss notebooks around. His parents probably paid for the book and may toss him out of their basement. Now where will he live?
And did the girl or him pay out of their pocket for the windshield replacement? Or did we all pay toward it if she went through insurance.

And to be on topic.Acrylic is also known as Plexiglas. Soft as shit and not legal on road from what I recall. Scratches up real bad and not as strong as Polycarbonate also known as Lexan that scratches up easier but is harder to break. Soft materials don't break like glass but you have to be careful what you wish for.

Very one dimensional thinking...if it hasn't happened to you it can't happen to anyone right? I didn't start this to argue the strength or weakness of the factory windshield but to see if anyone has experience with the optic armor windshield...which you obviously don't.

Yah I can see manufacturers lining up to buy non accepted plastic windows to install in the millions of vehicles they build anually in their 3 dimensional factories.
I've replaced more windshields on more vehicles you possibly will ever own. I USED TO OWN A FLEET BEFORE I RETIRED.
Glass breaks because of damage not the defroster or the tooth fairy playing games on your Jeep.

Even if your right I already said I don't give a **** why it broke I just wanted to hear from people who have used optic armor products...which you haven't so there is nothing else you need to say on this thread.

I'll say it again. It's plastic. It will scratch easier and I'm betting will be clouded over in no time. Heck, even their website alludes to this issue - "Care should be taken to wash all dirt, bugs, etc. off with water or regular windshield cleaner before any wiping take place. When wiping OPTIC ARMOR clean take care not to allow dust, sand, etc. between cloth/sponge and the OPTIC ARMOR"

And given you're in CA, I'm betting that note they have on their website (not DOT approved for front windshields) will be an issue in your state.

But, hey, you're jeep, your $450.00... go for it and let us know how it works.

Are you for real?

The dude is asking a question about real world experience for a different kind of windshield on the market. Isn't that what this forum is for? Not to have a pissing contest with you about who's owned more vehicles or a smart*** comment about manufactures lining up use these windshields.

I too have had a defroster crack my windshield on a very cold morning. Yes - it tad an chip in it and blast of hot hair blew it out and the windshield hit and damaged my garage door. But I used my insurance to replace both my garage door and windshield. Thanks for your contribution....

You're a real winner. lmao stop trolling and shut up already. You are seriously providing pointless information.

I have no experience with that windshield, but like others have said. I don't think plastic would be beneficial in the long run. Just my opinion too.

After a couple of cracked windshields from stones I tried a plastic film product. I was a little sceptical about dust and dirt scratching it from the wiper blades but it held up pretty well. Stone impacts would result in a small white dot rather than a star type crack in the glass. Unfortunately a bigger than normal stone still resulted in a crack. I didn't bother replacing the film with the new windshield and was surprised how optically clear the new windshield seemed after the one with the film, guess it did have an effect. Not too sure if the film would provide any protection from thermal shock.

I've had a defroster crack mine, too. Totally my fault, I'd had the blower on the vents, but nothing on the windshield while it was warming up. Then, I changed it to defrost. My windshield was already well-cracked and headed toward replacement. As soon as the blast of hot air hit it, she spidered all over the place. Lesson learned.

To the OP's point, I wouldn't want to drive around with a non-DOT windshield if I EVER carried any passengers. Even if it's just your family, who'd be less likely to sue you, certain states might be prone to file overzealous charges if someone were injured in an accident.

It sucks having to replace the windshield, but I plan on one a year, and set aside the funds accordingly. I have thought about putting on one of the cell phone-like windshield protectors that Extreme Terrain sells. They're about $80 and, if they work, would be well worth it. I do hesitate to spend half the cost of new glass on something unproven, though.

I don't think that plastic would hold up very well to the windshield wipers. A little grit on the them and a little water and you have a slurry being polished into that plastic with a wiper.
