Default Options for rear-door spare tire mount?

Hi everyone,

I just switched to 33" tires with 4.5" BS wheels. All is good, except the spare tire is a little farther from the rear door now... Those rubber bumpers on either side don't even reach the tire. Are there any options available to mount the tire closer? It would also help to restore the stock departure angle...

Thanks,
js.

do a search on "spare" and you'll find all kinds of threads on this issue.

from what i've heard...you can flip your spare around and that will help a bit. the rubber things are pretty much worthless but i've heard of some people replacing them with some hardware store pieces. other than that...your best bet is a bumper w/ tire carrier

The rubber pieces offer no real support, just vibration dampening. The reason it sits so far off now is the backsapcing of your wheel which you need for clearence on your ride not the spare. Not much you can do except what bc said.....flip it.

Yup, 4.5" BS. If I flip it, it'll be worse (there's less space on the front than the back).

What I need is to replace the stock mount with something a little shorter... I guess no-one is making something like that yet. Oh well... :-)
