Default Over Compressed Shocks?

We have Bilstein 5100 shocks in the rear and I am worried that they may have been over compressed several times. The bump stops weren't put back after some work was done and the Jeep was taken on a few trails without them before realizing the shocks were bottoming out. Should I be worried about any permanent damage? Like I said I THINK it only happened a few times. If there is damage, how will I know?

As long as they're not leaking, you should be ok.
