Default Overheating Help

Okay so i fried my fan motor and i just replaced it with the SPAL fan and I just took it for a drive....fan turns on and everything but it started going above the halfway mark again and wouldnt go down (temp gauge im talking about) So i stopped and kicked on the ac and it went down....

Anyone know if its just going to go up and then kick the fan on and cool down or do i have another problem.

Do you mean you turned the heat on ?? the AC should make the temps get worse... running the compressor for the AC would put more strain on the motor and cause more heat... I Fubared my stock fan motor and they took it apart and cleaned it up for me, I havent had issuse since but the whole way home from RC I was blasting heat to keep me steady... In NYC it got a littel sketchy in traffic and we were driving around with the windows down the top off and the doors half way open because it was soooo hott with the heat on.... but it was the only way to keep the temp steady

I think you have another problem. All turning on the AC should have done was put the fan on high, which it should have already been on if the temp guage went over half way. My stock guages have never been over half way. Even with the swap they've never been over half way. I've seen the water temp up as high as 210 and it was still parked at the half way point.

I talked to another guy and he said it probably was due to the mud caked on the backside of the radiator and then to also change the coolant casue we dumped a ton o water for a last ditch effort once the coolant tank was empty.....

Also i was going to take the thermostat out and see if its opening and closing.

what i meant to say was that once i stopped i hit the ac and then the heat to see if the temp would go down and it did so it may be due to the fact that i stopped or the fact that i turned the heat on ......idk yet but i have a few things im going to try over the weekend.

this is the cause from some heavy mudding and the mud was heavy and sandy so it fubarred my fan motor. My radiator is caked full.

was the fan running when it was overheating? before you turned ac on? I'm betting it was, I did warn ya that the Spal doesnt seem to be able to keep mine cool enough. If you need to drive it, with the 6spd as long as you keep the heat or defrost on and keep the rpm's around 2000 n below you wont overheat. I have an email out to spal engineer to see if he thinks a higher cfm rated fan would help. You may have to clean your radiator out though, the stocks like to hold a lot of mud. take the fan shroud off and spray it down form the back till only clean water is running off it, may even want to use some engine cleaner on it. I wish Spytec and citidel would comment on how theirs are doing

cleaning should help, though I'm not sure it will cure it 100% we'll see

Hopefully with me doing all the above with the thermostat and all it will help out.

I remember reading something in your writeup about the wiring. Could it be the fan isn't kicking into high?

did it overheat while sitting still or only while driving it? I hate to ask this, but is the fan pulling the air the correct way? I have seen aftermarket electric fans ran backwards and they will run cool while still but when moving the air fights itself if that makes sense. I am sure that is not what happened, but I have seen competent guys make simple mistakes. I make them all the time.
