Beautiful days out this past week here in Sacramento...Got the Jeep all washed up and looking good. Took the doors off and put the top back and went for a cruise. I pulled over to enter in an address in the GPS and started driving again and within seconds I heard the chime. Looked at the dashboard and it was pinned on overheating. Pulled back over and let it cool down a bit then drove it home. Got it to the dealer yesterday. It didn't throw any codes and they couldn't figure it out and wanted me to leave it for them to look at on Monday. I brought it home. I didn't want to leave it in a dark parking lot all weekend. So nothing electrical is wrong. Fuse is fine. No parts are broken. But it's still overheating.
It just hit 40k miles. (How fitting since the factory warranty ended 4k miles ago). Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Or know of a way I can test it? It's a 2010 JKU Sport. Any help/comments would be appreciated.

Buy or borrow an infrared thermometer and point it at the base of the thermostat housing before it overheats, then again when it overheats. That will tell you if the engine is in fact overheating.
Can you hear the fan coming on?
Have you ever had the JK in deep water? That may plug the radiator fins.
Find out if it's actually overheating, then troubleshoot from there.

And I was at the local 4x4 park and was playing in some water/mud last week.
Hmmmm....U got me thinking.....
Sounds like the fan may have problems.
Also, if you need to clean the radiator and A/C condenser, don't use a pressure washer. That will bend the fins. Use a regular hose to flush out the fins, not with too high a pressure.
You may even end up having to remove the radiator to get it clean. It's hard to remove mud from between the radiator and the A/C condenser, if you have one.

Just received my Jeep back. Heater hose burst and it overheated. After bypassing hose top up water and drove another 100miles before overheating again. Had to skim the heads and replace all gaskets.
Have anybody had a heater hose fail?

Only time I hear of heater hoses fail is when the thermostat gets stuck closed and the pressure bursts a hole in the hose. Thank God that didn't happen to mine.
I have pulled the fuses, cleaned the wires, checked everything I could and still keeps overheating.
I'm gonna let it cool back down and try spraying the radiator out.

HOLY MUD BATMAN!!

I just sprayed out the entire radiator and for the love of all things holy. The mud that gooped outta the radiator fins and all around it was crazy. Ran down my driveway like sludge. I couldn't believe it. I thought I did a good job cleaning it out the other day. Boy was I wrong!
I'm gonna let it sit and dry and then hit it again to see if it runs clear. Then I'll go for a drive and see if it overheats again.

BTW...I've seen a few JK's before with a fan in front of the radiator in between the grill and radiator. Is this for extra cooling? Or is it aftermarket when the OEM fans died? If so, what is it? Where do I get it?
