Question Oversize tire on rear gate anyone?

Okay so I tried searching for this but couldn't find anything

I have a 37" spare and I'm thinking about installing it on the rear gate

I do have room since I have a PureJeep rear bumper but I didn't get the one with the tire carrier

So will that make any stress on the rear gate/door?

Thanks

I think you should weigh your rim and 37 and compare that to the factory weight and make an educated guess..... I have the same bumper and the dealership put my wheel and tire package on before I bought the Jeep and it is working just fine (1 year so far) but my wheels and tires may weigh more or less than your 37's.

Some people have reported damage with just 35s. 37s are REALLY pushing it.

Check out these threads. I don't know if they're any good, but the titles are promising.

35" spare IS too heavy for stock carrier. (damage)
Spare on tailgate - lets settle this once and for all

Edit: I see someone else posted the same link.

The offroad guy at the dealership said that a 35" tire is ok with moderate offroading. But he said consider a tire carrier for the future. I asked about a 37" and he said it is not a good idea. It will damage the hinges and might ruin the gate too. He has a jk too with alot of mods so I trusted him when he gave his advise.

I have seen tailgates on TJs bent by 33" tires and I have seen tailgates bent on JKs by 35" tires. I think a 35" tire might be okay on a JK for a year or two, but it seems like the tailgate will eventually start bending from it.

My spare 32 inch rubi tire and wheel weighed in at 74 lbs
My new 35 inch KM2 and Wheel weigh in at 97 lbs

The manual says you can add 50 lbs to the tire for accessories like bike racks. that would mean that the spare could do 124 lbs and be OK.

I have no problems with my 35 inch tire other then I needed a spacer for the backspacing on my new wheels. They are really tight at 5.75 inches and I have a spidertrax 1.5 inch spacer.
