I installed the lift and tires 3 weeks ago, and have taken it wheeling once. I noticed today as I was trimming the bumper that paint has flaked off the front axle. Has anyone seen this before? Should I be worried.

The bumper trim turned out great.

nothing to worry about, it happens to almost all axles. Unless you are going for the show truck look just forget about it, if it really bothers you hit it with some krylon, or POR-15 if your budget allows.
Taken from their website.......
POR-15 is the product that changed car restoration permanently and is used by manufacturers world-wide to protect their factories from rust and corrosion. POR-15's non-porous coating keeps moisture away from metal permanently. The secret lies in POR-15's curing process. Most paints dry through evaporation, but POR-15 dries faster when moisture is present.
Now add to that POR-15's incredible hardness, toughness, and flexibility and you have a coating that is practically indestructible.
POR-15 is great for auto restoration, but it's also a state-of-the-art concrete preservative and floor coating.

or u can use Auto Magic rubberized undercoating. I used this on my entire undercarraige and it turned out really good. I was actually surprised how well it turned out. Goes on black and stays black. Does not chip or flake even after numerous pressure washing and beach salt and sand. Goes on thick and gives the underside of your jeep a nice matte black finish. Just my 2 cents
I had the same exact problem with my rear 44 dif cover. My dealership spray painted over it. I'm going to install solid diff covers though in order to get rid of the ugly painted dif cover and because the solid's are alot stronger. I know your feeling. Despite what everyone says, it's annoying and ugly to see the paint flaking off. And no matter what people say, eventually the elements will attack the unpainted metal and create rust; that's just nature in the long run.Paint isn't just for looks, it's also for protection. Try out that paint covering everytone is talking about. If you go to the dealership, they'll do nothing but paint crap over it.
