To paint...or not to paint....
I'm planning on powdercoating my rims as soon as I can, assuming I can find a place to powder coat them AND remount them afterwards. But with the light gray top I think the unpainted rims balance the color better than the black ones.
I personally like the black; but I would keep them stock and go aftermarket... Like already mentioned, if you wheel you are going to have a hard time keeping them looking good! And the price that some people pay for powder coating is just wrong; some nice aftermarket wheels could be had for those prices...
I wouldn't do it. For the price of $125 a rim you can get yourself a decent (not spectacular) afternamrket aluminum wheel that will likely look as good or better than a painted stocker.
Additionally as mentioned before, with paint or powder coat, if you plan on wheeling rocks it won't take long for your finish to be destroyed.
A few guys in my club actually prefer paint to powedercoat on some items, like their rock rails. Why? Because after you've throughly scraped them up on the rocks it's not hard to rattle can them so they have an even and decent looking finish.

I had the same debate with wheels on my Goldwing and things I considered were: powder coating is more expensive but more durable, if powder coating chips, you can repair the damage yourself. If you paint, you can repair it with little or no down time every time. It may look better than powder coating but how much wheeling are you going to do? My 2 cents.
Thinking about spraying my rims. Powder coating is too expensive and time consuming for me. I might wait until it warms up and shoot them with some self- etching primer, and then VHT wheel paint in satin black.
Just wondering what everyone else thought before I pulled the trigger.
Here's a couple pics. The second one is Photoshopped, obviously.

I like the look of black wheels on the JK. If I were doing to make my stock Rubi wheels black, I would powder coat them. Good luck.
