Paint for Riddler diff. covers?
Why put so much time/effort into getting them showroom with the clearcoat? You bought them so they protect, rigth? They're pretty likely going to get beat up pretty good. Take your time and do it right, but I don't know if I'd go through all the trouble getting it looking showroom... unless, of course, that's what your Jeep is for.

I used Duplicolor engine paint which is great looking but it required primer and the final coat took 5 days or so to cure. I used Mopar Bright Silver touch up paint to hand paint the logos. Rustoleum is good to go in a couple hours, so if/when I need to perform touch ups I'm going to use that instead.
I installed these last weekend!

When I screwed up and used clear coat (engine variety)...have since sanded and repainted semi gloss black:

That's just back hammered finish Rustolium. No Clearcoat, just reflection from the flash.

Hi Everyone,
I just received Riddlers from David at Northridge, along with 5.13s.
I'll be painting the covers before the install. There are a lot of great looking ideas on this thread. I'll probably just go with a flat or semi-gloss black coating over a couple of coats of primer to keep it simple, and to make it easier to do touch-up.
I have read that the cover interior should NOT be painted. That makes sense; but, I'd like to confirm that.
Thanks for all of the ideas.
Jeff

Correct do not paint the inside!

Got mine for Christmas but haven't installed them yet.
I have a can of primer and a can of Dupli color "Flame Red" laying around.
The "Flame Red" matches the Jeep exact and I think will be just fine. Cause no matter what I paint it with I will be touching it up after the first rock I bounce it off.
I used brake cleaner to clean them off and I also warmed them up in the oven to about 225 before painting which seemed to help.

I used Rustoleum black hammer finish. Make sure you use the primer first, it will make the paint stick better.
I put mine in the sink and scrubbed em good with soap and hot water to prep them.
All you have to do it rinse them under full hot in your sink and then dry em off a bit, the heat from the hot water will cause them to dry off very nicely. I hit mine with an air hose to get the bolt holes totally dry.
Definitely do not paint the inside!
Black rustoleum was used because that is the color every bracket and part that goes on gets. The brake line hangers from TF, the aux tranny cooler brackets from B&M, etc.
I have banged em on a few rocks but there is no flaking of the paint next to the scratch. The nice part is touch up is a breeze!
