Painting
So I am going to paint the silver bumper covers red. I bought the spray paint from the dealer. $14.99. What do I need to do to prep the cover for paint. Do I need to sand them, prime them. Then do I need to clear them. I have never painted an auto part only stuff around the house. Please any help will be great. Thank you

Just get a scotch Brite scuff pad and scuff the surface of the plastic. So the paint has something to stick to. Once done with scuffing them clean them with rubbing alcohol or a paint specific cleaner, then go ahead and paint them, and the paint doesn't have clear coat mixed in the can, so grab a can of clear enamel and spray once the red paint is done. You can wet sand the clear coat once it's dry and coat again, and you should be good.

First you need to get any contaminates off with a wax and grease remover then sand with 400 sand paper or red scotch brite. Then clean again trying not to touch with dirty or sweaty hands. Then apply even coats of paint till covered. You must apply a clear coat for gloss and UV protection.

Well let's say I shall never work in an auto body shop. I did all the prep. I waited 2 days for the paint from the dealer and let me tell you Mopar sells a real small can of spray paint for 15 bucks. And it looks like crap I have runs and it's not good. I am going to clean it and start over tomorrow. Or I might just bring the small two parts to an auto body shop and have them do it.

Being the covers are plastic, it may not be a bad idea to use a plastics adhesion promotor, primer, base coat, and clear. If you are going to do it correctly, do it the first time.
