Dawn dish soap is fantastic for cleaning. Also I use a 50/50 mixture of just water and IPAlcohol to strip my pick-up and the wife's Mercedes of all wax and polish I have put on it and then clay, wash and start all buffing. I've never tried a "clay" bar for a job like this but you might try it. Just be sure to use a lubricating liquid you can get from any detail homepage.

Grasping at straws here but have you considered using Plasti Dip? If it doesn't turn out or you don't like it, just simply tear it off.

 

If I had not read that you did this yourself I would have thought a auto body shop painted them. "Fantastic looking."

Life is a learning curve and if we don't try something we haven't done before then we shall never know our limitations.

 

You did a good job, but i dunno man... i say paint the entire bumpers!
