Default Painting Chrome Rims

I'm getting bored with the look of my chrome rims and will eventually replace them with black. I could have sworn I saw some TV show (maybe Muscle Car on Saturday morning???) where they took chrome rims, stripped them down, then painted them black. Is something that is even worth considering in the real world? Would it just make more economic sense to try to sell them and buy what I want? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If the chrome is in good shape, sell them. If there kind of shitty and you wont get much for them, paint them.

It's horrid trying to paint over chrome. Best advice is to sell on CL and get a decent set of blacks or stockers and paint them black yourself with bedliner.

I've considering doing this myself as I have peeled a layer off here and there from playing on the rocks. I have considering sand blasting them and the power coating them black. I'd be interested to see what other recommendations you get.

If you want to paint them: http://www.duplicolor.com/projects/p.../wheelCoating/

If you like the look and not the color that is. There is always Plastidip. it comes off so you can either keep the coat of platidip or remove it aand paint??

www.dipyourcar.com - check out their vids.

there is always the bedliner trick. too. I have yet to do anyone of these but I think I will custom paint my stock ones.

OR like the others say, Craigslist and buy new ones.

I PlastiDip'd my Chrome Clad Wheels for Winter Wheels. I've had great success with Plastidip. And again, if you don't like it peel it off. Others have painted over it with some success, it's worth trying. My advice clean twice, paint once. I used 4 cans on 4 wheels, I only had 1 bad spot that started to peel but I kinda new that when I did it.

Then if you don't like it, either paint them, truck bed them, sell them or powder coat them.
