Yes you can use them as a step,I needed to because I have an RK 2.5" lift which yielded 4" Plus the addition of 37" tires it's up there. What I did was to have them powder coated($ 100.00). first time in the rain I slipped off and about killed my shin. Went to Home Depot and bought some grip tape like they use on cement steps for grip and applied to the top of the top rail. Plenty of grip to keep you from slipping off and killing some body parts and inexpensive too. Larry McRae from Poison Spyder saw them and thought that was a pretty good idea. Doesn't detract from the look and it's functional...

The only thing is Powder Coating is tough...and really looks like you didn't Rattle Can 'em. I would suggest to Rattle Can em first and see what you think.
Definately Rattle Can the inset whatever color you want,If you don't want them messed up from the Rocks you can always remove them for the Trail. That's what they are made for.

Nice ride. I thought about this but wondered how well the tape would hold up? Have you had he tape on long? Also, thanks the the pictures. I'm not as far along as you are. Though after seeing how good yours with the touch of accent the way you have it I'm liking my color combination even better. Nice setup! Really liking the rocker panels.

Blue tape on the front covering the Spyder and paint it from the back, Leaves only the inside of the spyder colored. I get lots of compliments on that plus I find people taking pictures with there phones all the time. Flourescent Green is a great accent color on a black Jeep.

Just put my Rocker Knockers on today.. When I got them they were a little rough so I sanded them down.. Cleaned and primed them next.. Put about 3 coats of Rustoleum primer and 3 coats of Rustoleum texted black paint.. Came out great!!
