Question Parking Garages

Hi! New JK owner ...awesome site, but I am jealous of most of you...for now

I live in an urban area where parking spots are rare, and having two in a garage are even more rare!

I want to put a lift and/or new tires on my new stock JK, but I have to be concerned about overall height and clearance. Can you guys tell me what you have gone with as far as lifts and tires, and what kind of clearance is required.

I want to go as high as I can without having to look for hours for street parking.

THANKS!!

also, can I lift my truck with stock tires...until I have money to get the wheels, or should I just wait so I can afford everything at once.

Yeah..that must be a very very close one. I imagine with roof off it even makes you duck.

I measured my stock JK over the rear wheels, where it looks to be the highest point and it is 5ft 11inches.

Does a 4" lift really add 4" to the overall height? I've never had a lifted vehicle so not too sure how this works.

Thanks

I live in the middle of the city and have to do parking garages constantly. Since my 3" lift and 35's were put on, I've definitely had issues with parking. I wouldn't say it's enough to go back to smaller tires, but it has definitely been somewhat of a PITA. I no longer fit in my garage at home, so the JK now lives on the street. I don't seem to fit in garages lower than 6'10" or so... although I was in one that said max clearance 7' and I was literally centimeters from the lowest hanging lights and sprinklers without my top on.... it was pretty nerve wrecking.

So, while I don't think it should be a deal breaker for your decision, you should definitely be aware of the drawbacks related to city living.

Yeah, I don't know.... but I can guarantee you that, unless your garage isn't really 6'4", I would definitely not fit.

I love my lift and tires, but parking can be a real PITA sometimes.... I actually ended up 20 minutes late to a doctor's appointment because I couldn't fit in their garage or find any parking....

Honestly, I don't trust the max clearance signs. Like I said, I have fit in garages with a 6'10" clearance and had plenty of room, but then I go to the 7' one and barely squeezed in. I also went into a garage that said the clearance was 8'2", but it definitely was not because my antenna was smacking everything in the garage.

Maybe I need airrock.

There's another thread about this specifically in the DC area. With about 4" of lift and tires to go with it, 35/37 you're most likely looking at 6ft 6" at least.

My JK sits just above 80" or so.
