Default Pentastar V6: JK vs. Challenger

Colleagues,

I noticed that it appears the '12 JKs have the same Pentastar V6 as the Dodge Challengers. The JK's motor produces 285 hp while the Challenger is coming it at 305.

Why the difference in the stock motors? Is there a bolt on or mod (possibly exhaust) that would put the JK's on par with the Challengers?

Thanks!!

Jeeperaf....

If its the same identical engine than my best guess would be that the tunes are different. Maybe the JK received a slightly different tune to up the torque and sacrifice some HP?

The Challenger has more stickers and therefore more horsepower...

same block, same internals, different cylinder head and intake manifold.

I suspect there'll be mods happening real soon since the differences aren't that great.

This is the case with a lot of cars out there using the same engine. And it is that try will be tuned differently according to what that car will be used to do in this case the jeep is an suv and the challenger a performance car. Take for example the solstice 2.4l eco tec and the cobalt ss ( the non supercharged/turbo) the solstice makes more horsepower.... Same motor but gm tuned it to squeeze as much Hp out of it as possible but for the Balt tried to keep it still fuel efficient.

Two solid axles, off road reliability(haha high tech, yeah right) and economy. My guess at the tuning approach for the pentastar. DT plays a huge role.

Plus, when a tune comes out. I'm sure you'll get your 305. Sometimes I'm convinced the after market world and corporations work at this to each create a market for necessity to move product.

2.0t motor in a gti- 200hp 2.0t motor in and Audi A3-265hp. Again. More hp for all wheel drive model. Chip a gti-265(crank) hmmm? ;-)
