Thanks for the feedback on suspension guys.

Any recomendations on the 285/70/17s?

I have had original BFG MTs on TJ and was not impressed with their on road feel and noise. Have had BFG ATs on 2 other trucks and they were great on road and in the sand.

Any feed back on other brands before I get a set of BFG ATs again would be great.
Keeping in mind Im mostly on road or sand, what other tires have you guys had good experiances with?

If you want or don't mind a more aggresive tread try:

1. The BFG KM2s, excellent on the road (quiet and great manners), very good in sand, good in mud.

2. The Mickey Thomson MTZ, not quiet as good on the road, but a bit better in mud and sand. I believe the ATZ is also available in this size. These tires are a bit pricey.

3. Toyo Open Country MT although I am not sure they are available in this size. A rugged long wearing tire, but it is heavy.

I'd look for an off-road tire that's omptimized for sand. I think that Nitto makes one.

I agree the Baja Claw is a great sand tire, but it is a big step up in aggressiveness from a BFG AT.

The Nitto Sand Grappler reminds of the old Mickey Thompson Baja Belted wich was one of the first to extend the tread to the sidewall. It is not a radial, but it was a
really soft riding tire with a really cool tread pattern.

It must have been discontinued because I have seen a set in a long time.

The Mickey Thompson ATZ which is comparable to the BFG is a very good sand tire and has much better road characteristics that the Baja Claw.

Get everything that a lift kit has, but don't lift it. Get aftermarket arms, stiffer coils, Bilstein shocks, steering stabilizer, and some wider all terrain tires and get at 'em.

If you can shave 1000 lbs, that'll help too. It's a big rolly Jeep, not the track car that you have in the garage.

Why would he want aftermarket arms if he's not lifting it? There's no change in the distance from the axle to the frame, so caster and pinion angle will not need to be adjusted.

And why would he add a steering stabilizer? That won't do a thing to help body roll. The only positive effect that it might have is dampening out some bump steer, but that's not a problem for the OP.

Tires have made a huge difference, I went for KM2s (I had a deal I couldnt refuse) and cant understand how they can be so quiet. The are hardley louder than the stock tires.
I have shocks on the way and searching for swaybars.

Who makes stiffer (non disconect) sway bars for the JK? My searching found a rear 19mm bar from full traction but nothing for the front. Are the front disconect kits stiffer than the stock bars?
