Default performance mods worth it?

first off--i don't have 2000 to re gear my jeep..i've got 3.73 on 285/75/16 & auto 2 door. i really doubt i'm gonna go any bigger..

is spending 600-700 bucks on CAI, New exhaust & superchip gonna do me any good? or should i just take that money and buy a new rear bumper?

i realize NOTHING (except a hemi) will give my jeep a kick in the pants, but..

people seem hot & cold about things like CAI & new exhausts--the superchips seem like it does SOME good(read JPOPs review)..do all 3 make it worth while?

thanks
steve

Cost of regearing should also figure fuel consumption and happiness. Superchips is the only thing i'm really going to spend my money on as far as engine wise.

yeah you guys with the 3.63's are SOL. I was able to get the power i desired out of a combo of superchips+Exhaust+Banks CAI. Total after shipping for all that was $700. Where i live ecery local shop thats trustworthy to do the job wants 2 grand to do it. Im happy with my 4.10's and 35's now.

A huge difference getting along without gears with a 6 speed and an automatic. The .69 OD and unlocking the converter is a real performance killer with the auto.

I went with the muffler first, then the drop in air filter came about 8 months later. The muffler made a noticeable difference that I could feel right away. I did not notice too much of a difference after putting in the AFE dry filter, but I like that it is reusable and does not require oil. The big change was when I added the Superchips Flashpaq. That is a new development, and I have not even burned up my first tank of gas yet, but boy, what a difference in pick up at any speed. MPG seems to be a little better, too. I am currently running the "87 Performance" setting.

If I had it all to do again, the Flashpaq would be the first thing I would get. These three mods will be all I do to my engine. Total cost for all, including installation of the muffler, $500.00. Totally worth it.

The .69:1 is the gear ratio of your overdrive or 4th gear with an automatic transmission. What that means is at highway speeds you'll have pretty low rpm and will find your JK often kicking down to a lower gear to make additional power. When you kick down to a lower gear your driveline unlocks the converter which causes some driveline slip to increase rpm and torque. The net result is you spike your rpms by about 50% or more.

As everyone has said, if you are not going to change your gears at least spend the $300 on the Flashpaq.

IMO the exhaust upgrade is better than a 50/50 proposition whether or not it helps on torque and the CAI is just a noise maker.

What ever mods you choose, do one at a time so you can tell where your getting your money's worth.

Save the $200+ for the CAI and buy something else. Just keep in mind there is no substitute for gears.

If the percentage of overdrive is .69 in fourth gear, then what the hell is it in fourth gear with the converter LOCKED???? No wonder they won't pull a greasy srting outta a cat's ass.

Red, congratulations on coming up with an expression that I have not heard before and almost made me spit coffee all over my desk!
