Performance part mod ?'s
So I have been thinking about doing some perfomance upgrades to my JK to make sure i'm getting all the power and perfered sound outof my engine.
I was looking at installing a CAI and a new exhaust (MBRP or Gibson dual maybe?). I might also get a superchip tuner.
My questions-
1. Can I install a CAI and/or Exhaust without tuning my system or making any changes with a tuner?
2. I might be doing one part at a time (funds...) and the superchips are pretty expensive and may be the last thing purchased. Is that ok? Is superchip that important to go with these changes?
3. Any pro/cons or input to any brand of intake or exhaust you have is welcome!
Thanks for helping with my newbie performance questions

Let me know if you have any questions about the MBRP Performance exhausts. Do your research when it comes to exhausts....there are a lot of reviews on here for both brands you listed.
Seems like Superchips is the way to go from what I have read?
Not sure about the intake and exhaust giving a huge increase to performance? To do all three (Chips, CAI, Exhaust) is going to run about 1K!!
It's alot of cash for things I'm really not familiar with and wonder if buying other items off my huge long list of mods for the Jeep is a better idea.
Boy this is a hard one for me to decide on!

If you are looking for performance upgrades, then the superchips should be the first thing you buy...I got mine for 295 plus free shipping. It will actually give you gains you can feel, make the throttle more responsive, and increase mpg...in the long run it pays for itself in gas savings so get it first. Thats cheaper than an exhaust system, which will give you more of an aggressive sound (depending on the system you buy you can end up with a rice burner sound) but not the performance increase you are expecting, of course I am not speaking from experience as I haven't purchased an exhaust yet because I bought the the superchips first
Stay away from dual exhaust systems. I am going with the MBPR off road exhaust or the Cooltech exhaust, as both relocate the muffler and the tip sits tucked up above the bumper for the best ground clearance so you wont smash up your system if you go off roading. In my opinion both of these systems sound the best too. A lot of people are running the MBPR and seem to be a top choice on the JK Forum. I will probably be getting the Cooltech. A lot of people say cold air intakes are a waste but I am still getting one. You might also check out the Firepower Ignition Kit...haven't heard too much about these, there is an open thread you can look for, might be on page 2 by now. It allows you to increase the gap in your spark plugs causing a bigger spark and a more complete/intense burn of the air fuel mixture in the cylinder. Of course by adding all these upgrades you may lean out your engine due to the fact that you are changing the amount of air in the air fuel mixture that is burned, so you might have to always run premium gas but the increase in MPG should cover the cost.
The performance package I am looking to put together:
1. Superchips
2. Cooltech exhaust
3. CAI (AEM Brute Force or AirRaid most likely)
4. Firepower Ignition Kit
5. Throttle Body Spacer? Have heard a lot of NO's from other members on a TBS so not sure about this one yet.
6. Long tube headers? All the ones I have seen are pretty expensive compared to the other mods
I am hoping all this ran in conjunction with superchips will maximize the benefits of each mod, like I said you will probably have to run premium 93 octance gas with this setup.
I am also doing it mod by mod due to my funds...we are pretty much in the same boat.
Of course you could skip all this and save up for a RIPP Supercharger or keep saving and drop a Hemi in that b*tch!
Hope this provides some insight, sorry about the length lol.

Thanks Cameron, that was very helpful! I kind of thought the superchips was the way to go by the post I have read.
I am not completely sold on the intake myself, btu exhaust really does give a better sound. I did listen to some on a post here to be certain I didn't get the rice burneer sound!
$300 isn't too much and will give power, so I may just jump on the superchip deal 4Wdrive is running

Hey man, you are welcome. Superchips also allows you to configure your Jeep to get the most out of it if/when you put on bigger tires and re-gear and has other useful features for off-roading. So it will not only give you the perfomance/MPG increase you are looking for but will also be useful when you add other non performance upgrades...its a winner! Just so I don't sound like a Superchips rep, you might want to check out Hypertech's chip or the other ones...but the Superchips out performs, has more features, and is cheaper...........so ya know...SUPERCHIPS
That is a big seller for me (being able to make changes). I plan on getting tires, gears, lift, lol and a ton of other stuff! So it will be nice to be able install items and then program my ride for the new parts.
I assume I can turn off the low tire pressure warnings with superchips? I had a nail pulled out my tire and after Discount Tire filled all my tires to the level listed on the door jam the light came on. I guess the sensors reads 3lbs off at all times, so I couldnt even run 35PSI without that light on.
Is the superchips easy to use when it come to chages you make? I'm not the most gifted with electronics, but have a pretty good handle on things, lol.

Yea you can adjust the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) to your likes or disable it all together. I believe you can clear any codes that your system might be showing, which happens quite often when you add things to the suspension, but someone else would have to confirm this. Its plug n play, its super easy. It saves your stock settings and only takes a few minutes to revert back to these if you are taking it to the dealership...avoid those warranty issues!
