Default pinion seal install

i am putting on some new pinion seals.. i took the old ones off.. i was wondering if i should use some kind of gasket seal around them ? looked like their was something on their from the factory when they were installed . just wondering what other people used ? thanks

the new seals should have a pre-made gasket bead along the edge of the seal. does yours not?

yes they look just like the ones i took out.. i was just wondering about the metal outside part that slides in.. i didnt know if i need to put something around the very out side or if they are good just the way they are ?

Sometimes I run a thin bead of silicone gasket maker around the edge. Just make sure there is no gear oil on the housing as the silicone won't stick to it.

I didnt use anything extra..... what was on the seals worked just fine for us.....

Just be careful tapping them in, the outer lip bends easily
