Default Possible/Definate Rub

Finally got my sled back from the shop, damn thing looks sweet, still not quite done or ready for primetime, but getting close.

At the shop I noticed this problem:

So when I got home, I took the stock Rubi rock rail off and now have this:

I now have about 1-1/2" of space between tire & body, so a guarantee rub in waiting. The guy at the shop said this is a pretty common problem, and that I need to take a Sawzall and cut the body back. This definatly seems possible, but my question is, how much room do I need to have at this area/point. How much up-travel(not sure that is a word) do I need to allow for. So far am loving the look and feel of this 6" Teraflex kit.

Anyone else had to do this?

I will say these 38.5"(38.83 actual) tires look sweet as can be. Just don't want to have to replace them prematurely.

Please advise.

Find something to test your flex, just go slow and see when it hits the bump stops, cut until you reach the clearance needed

i wouldnt cut it off. most people use a deadblow hammer or something soft to bend the pinch seam in. maybe try a search here for "pinch seam". it is common, but usually as the axle moves up, it also moves back. take fulltractions advice and test out the bump stops.

I'm not sure he can get the clearance needed just bending the pinch seem over, its worth a shot for sure.

Yea, I am thinking have to cut for sure, the corner could be bent, but after that the body gets kind of thick/wide.

No ideas on the ideal space? Was thinking probably need 3" minimum, which means 1-1/2" to cut off, much more and it looks like I might be into the body too much.

A lot of people cut the rubi rails to fit 37s. I would just look for information on that and then after cutting that, test the flex.

Hey,

I had to cut my Rubi Rockers and pinch weld in that area for 35's with a 3.25 lift. I freaked-out a little about taking a dremel tool to the Wrangler, but I didn't want to cut the new tires either.

The only thing I was dissapointed about was that Rough Country's tech kinda acted like "who cares?" about the whole thing. This bugged me because we called before we bought the lift and specifically asked if this was the right lift and was there going to be any issues.

I will think twice next time.

Rubi rails are not going back on, have some pretty new LoD rails coming(hopefully they get here soon).

Thanks for the idea on looking up under 37's.

Used a cut off wheel with a grinder. Took about less then 5 min on each side.
