Default Potential Build List -- Springs

I am discussing bumpers with my 14 yo son on our build project. I am leaning toward the ARB Deluxe Bull Bar (eventually with a winch) matching ARB Rear Bumper, and rock rails from somebody. From reading post it is my understanding the above setup will cause sag due to weight. It appears the usual answer to address the sag is a budget lift. I am really not interested in starting him out in a lifted jeep. I am planning to limit him to 33" tires on after market rims. I was wondering if new springs would correct the sag when I saw the following post:

What do y'all think, would a set of the stiffest factory springs correct the sag?

Thanks,

No lift and 33's? Are you mad at him?

Going to taller 'stock' springs and adding weight would put you back where you are now. Then you put a taller tire on, find out you have clearance issues anyway, add spacers or new coils again to correct it, etc.

Since you are going up to 33's, I'd suggest you look for a lift/coil that will put you two inches 'over' your stock height to compensate for both the extra weight and the taller tire.

I don't actually know of any coils that would give that small of a lift, but I'm sure there are some out there. Maybe the OME Light Duty coils? (do some research on this, as the listed height is very rarely the actual height you'll get)

The TF leveling kit may be an option also. 2" front and 1" rear, which gets rid of the factory rake nicely, but it's a spacer lift, so your stock coils may be a bit to compressed with all the extra weight.

No, I am not mad at him, just did not want to start a new driver out with a lift, even a mild one like a 2 - 2.5". From reading different post I thought 33's could be installed on a stock JK 4 door without rubbing as long as the sag was corrected.

Cheers,

They can help, but I have a Rubicon and had a lot of sag from an AEV bumper and winch. My solution was to get a set of 4.0 liter TJ Rubicon front springs and this gave me back the 1" or so that I lost. I don't think there is a JK spring that is heavy enough to fix this issue.

True enough. Lots of folks running 33's without lifts. But how much do those ARB bumpers weigh? And the winch? And the tire carrier? Will the 33's still be rub-free on stock coils with all that weight? Or will you have to tear it all apart a second time to add spacers?

My suggestion was simply to do it right the first time, instead of finding out afterward and having to do it all over again. (Though the whole father-son dirty/greasy mechanical bonding experience would be a good thing.)

Cheers,

You will have rubbing at stock stance with 33x12.50 tire...not in the front but on the rear stock fenders if you even do any type of mild off-roading...know from experience.

If you are going with a max 33" tall tire...look at investing in a 2" taller HD spring with longer shocks if you are going to be adding bumpers and winch. I have a 2" Rubicon Express BB with monoshocks with stock springs and will be adding LOD front and rear bumpers and a warn winch in the next month or so. I am expecting some sag and will more than likely get OME 2" HD springs to compensate for the added weight. I am holding off on ordering springs till I get the bumpers and winch installed. I will take before and after measurements and if I have sag...OME HD springs will be ordered as I love the current setup for my 33's for off-roading and flexing!

2" of lift does not affect the driveablilty on the pavement at all and it gives that much extra room for flexing off-road! Just my 2 cents.
