Default PowerTank vs. Warn PowerPlant

I've been using a Powertank for the last several years to inflate tires and run air tools and I like it's versatility... but it also takes up a good deal of space in the rig. I am curious if any of you with the Warn PowerPlant have compared your air up times and air tool use to that of the PowerTank??? Most of the other "on-board" air systems can't compete with the PowerTank... but Warn claims 5cfm from its unit... so what do you all think of it? Thanks!

I have both. Powertank is way fast. The PowerPlant is much faster than say an ARB or a ViaAir (I've had both and took them out--even had duel compressors for a while). I use the Powerplant as a back up for when I am out of CO2, or when we are wheeling with a bunch of people who don't have their own air. Having both is a luxury. The powerplant is good. I just don't have the patience to wait for big tires.

I would have put a Kilby system in my Jeep but it wouldn't fit with the hemi.

I have an arb and I can tell you that its slower than a powerplant but with a 2dr there isn't a lot of run to mount it out of the way. If you have a soft top I have heard that the nounting brackets will not work with putting the top down.

My powertank is mounted outside on the spare tire, takes up no interior space!

The CO2 is fast, without equal really..but, you can run out of CO2, and then its about as slow a having nothing at all.

You also need to BUY CO2 refills periodically as well, which adds up over time.

For me, I KNEW I'd be too busy, and run out of CO2...and went OBA instead.

A bud uses CO2, but has TWO tanks, and he rotates them, so he doesn't run out.

I find after trail runs, especially if I have a bunch of newbies, etc....they all want to borrow your air to air back up...

...and with CO2, while its fast, it also uses up a finite amount of re-fills/costs $ to allow that.

The powerplant is rated for 5 CFM at 90 psi, that's more than many compressors advertise for their ZERO PSI performance.

If you plumb the output of the powerplant to a reservoir tank, and fill from that, you'd have a kick ass system that could run tools, re-set blown beads, etc, as well as fill tires.

For me, the powerplant would make sense if you needed a winch, and OBA anyway.
